CONTRACTOR MARKETING TIP

Don’t just show the finished job. Show why the customer hired you.

A picture of a beautiful finished project is good.

But this is better:

THE PROBLEM:
“Every heavy rain was washing gravel out of this customer’s driveway.”

THE FIX:
“We corrected the drainage, reshaped the driveway and installed new gravel.”

THE RESULT:
“Water now moves where it should instead of destroying the driveway.”

Then show the before-and-after photos.

This works for almost any trade.

Pressure washing: stained driveway → cleaned concrete.
Junk removal: packed garage → usable space.
Landscaping: overgrown yard → cleaned property.
Roofing: leaking roof → repaired roof.

Customers don’t buy your service because they want to give you work. They buy it because they have a problem they want gone.

Make the problem and result the focus of your marketing—not just what you did.

**This week’s Contractor Growth Weekly plan is live.**

Most contractors on Facebook are waiting for someone to post:

**“Looking for recommendations for a contractor.”**

The problem?

By then, every contractor in town is chasing the same lead.

This week, we’re doing something different.

I’ll show you how to use local Facebook groups to find homeowners talking about **problems your business solves BEFORE they start looking for a contractor.**

It takes about **15 minutes a day**, costs nothing, and can put you into the conversation before your competition even realizes there’s a potential job.

The full step-by-step plan goes out this week to **Contractor Growth Weekly** subscribers.

**It’s completely FREE to join:**

CONTRACTOR JOB-GETTING TIP

Stop marketing only to the person who needs your service.

Start marketing to the people who regularly meet people who need your service.

If you’re an excavator, get to know septic installers, plumbers, builders and landscapers.

If you’re a pressure washer, connect with realtors, property managers, painters and landscapers.

If you’re in junk removal, connect with landlords, realtors, storage facilities and remodeling contractors.

One good referral partner can send you jobs over and over again.

Here’s your assignment:

Pick 5 local businesses that serve the same customers you do—but don’t directly compete with you.

Introduce yourself. Learn what they do. Tell them what you do. And most importantly, send work their way when you can.

Don’t just build a customer list.

Build a network of people who have a reason to recommend you.

CONTRACTOR MARKETING TIP

Your old estimates are a lead list.

Think about how many people you’ve given estimates to over the last 6–12 months who never hired you.

Most contractors forget about them and move on.

Go back through those estimates and follow up:

“Hey John, this is TJ. I gave you an estimate a while back for your drainage project. I was going through some older estimates and wanted to see if you ever got that taken care of.”

Don’t immediately offer a discount.

Don’t pressure them.

Just restart the conversation.

Some hired someone else. Some changed their mind. But some simply got busy, put the project off, or forgot about it.

You already did the hard part—you found the customer, talked to them, and gave them a price.

Before spending money finding another lead, make sure you haven’t left good ones sitting in your estimate folder.

CONTRACTOR MARKETING TIP:

Stop ending your posts with “Call us for a free estimate.”

Give people a reason to contact you right now.

Instead of:

“Call today for a free estimate.”

Try:

“Have a drainage problem you’re not sure how to fix? Send me a couple pictures and I’ll tell you what I think.”

Or:

“Not sure what it would cost to clean your driveway? Send me a picture and your address and I’ll give you a ballpark.”

That first message is the hardest step for a potential customer.

Make it easy and low-pressure to start the conversation.

Once they’re talking to you, you’ve got an opportunity to turn that conversation into a job.

Don’t just ask people to call. Give them a reason to start talking.

**CONTRACTOR MARKETING TIP**

Stop advertising everything you do in one post.

If you offer pressure washing, gutters, window cleaning, paver sealing and roof cleaning, don't cram all five services into one ad.

Create **five different posts**, each focused on one specific problem.

“Dirty driveway?” is stronger than “We offer pressure washing, gutters, windows, roofs and more.”

“Water pooling beside your foundation?” is stronger than “We offer grading, drainage, excavation and land clearing.”

Customers aren't usually looking for a contractor who does 12 things.

They're looking for someone who can solve **the one problem they have right now.**

**One problem. One service. One post.**

If you're a contractor and you don't know where your next job is coming from, I wrote this for you.

I'm a contractor myself, and one thing I've learned is that being good at the work and being good at getting the work are two completely different things.

You can own the equipment.
You can do excellent work.
You can give fair prices.

None of that matters if nobody is calling.

That's why I put together Contractor Marketing Methods.

It's not a bunch of marketing-school theory or some $2,000 course telling you to dump money into ads.

It's a collection of practical ways small contractors can actually go out and generate work—including methods I've used in my own contracting business.

Facebook. Google. Local groups. Nextdoor. Your website. Past customers. Turning one job into the next one. And more.

If work is slow right now—or you simply want more ways to keep your schedule full—grab a copy.

One decent job from one idea in this book can pay for it many times over.
