They have a RUN problem.

The offer may be good.
The demand may be real.
The vision may be clear.

But once the business starts moving, a different question shows up:

Can the operation actually handle the movement?

Can the team execute consistently?
Can the process support volume?
Can communication stay clear?
Can customers have a good experience?
Can the work happen without everything depending on one person?

That is the RUN phase.

RUN is where strategy meets reality.

It is not just about being busy.
It is about making sure the business can perform, repeat, and deliver under real conditions.

Sometimes you are trying to RUN something you never had the opportunity to fully BUILD.

Before you can effectively run a business, you have to understand what you are actually running.

The customer.
The offer.
The market.
The money.
The people.
The process.
The systems.
The responsibilities.
The risks.

That takes research.

And it takes organization.

BUILD is the phase where you get the pieces out of your head and learn how the business actually fits together before expecting yourself to operate it at full speed.

So if your business feels mentally heavy, the next move may not be another task.

It might be getting the whole picture on the table.

Build first.

Then run.

Years ago, I ran a rent-to-own real estate campaign in Atlanta.

It worked.

The phone started ringing faster than I could handle it.

At first, that felt like success.

More leads.
More interest.
More opportunity.

But the campaign did not just create demand.

It exposed the operation behind it.

The system that worked when calls came in a few times a day could not handle people calling back-to-back.

That experience taught me something I still pay attention to today:

Growth exposes what the operation was already getting away with.

Sometimes the bottleneck is staffing.

Sometimes it is communication.

Sometimes it is documentation.

Sometimes it is technology.

Sometimes it is risk controls.

And sometimes one person is quietly holding the whole operation together.

That is where growth can create false confidence.

Revenue is increasing.
Customers are coming in.
The business looks healthy.

But underneath it, the operation may already be falling behind.

I see the same pattern when businesses grow today.

More employees.
More vehicles.
More equipment.
New services.
New locations.
Different customers.

The business changes.

But the systems supporting and protecting it do not always change with it.

That gap matters.

Before asking:

“How do we get more customers?”

Ask:

“If demand doubled tomorrow, what would break first?”

That question can tell you more about the health of a business than another growth campaign ever will.

The owner did not ask about one policy.

They mentioned:

Business
Land
Rentals
Vehicles
Food trucks
Life insurance

That is not simply a request for six quotes. It is a signal that one person may be managing several connected operations, assets, and responsibilities.

Before discussing price, the risks need to be separated and mapped:

* What belongs to the operating business?
* Which properties are rented, occupied, or held as investments?
* How are the vehicles titled and used?
* Is the food truck part of the existing business or a separate operation?
* Where could one policy end before another begins?
* Which needs require a different licensed specialist?

The goal should not be forcing everything into one policy.

The goal is making sure the owner’s real operation does not fall between several disconnected policies.

That is why an insurance conversation should begin with how the operation works, not only with the product someone wants.

Risk assessment starts before the paperwork.

Sometimes it begins with simply showing up, paying attention, and understanding what is happening on the ground.

I was completing a property condition assignment when this four-legged local guide decided to point me in the right direction.

Funny moment. Real lesson.

Businesses change constantly.

New equipment.
New employees.
New vehicles.
New services.
New locations.

But the paperwork does not always change with them.

A strong risk conversation starts by understanding how the business operates today, not just how it looked last year.

I passed my Property and Casualty Insurance exam.

This next chapter is not a random pivot.

It connects to the same work I have always cared about: operations, risk, people, and the gaps that show up when responsibility is unclear.

After 17 years in a Six Sigma-driven manufacturing environment, I see insurance differently.

Coverage matters.

But before a policy ever responds, there is usually an operating reality underneath it:

unclear ownership, weak documentation, missed handoffs, delayed visibility, or risk that was not named early enough.

That is the lens I am bringing into commercial P&C.

Right now, contractors are where I am paying close attention, especially HVAC and roofing.

Not because other markets lack risk.

Because the operational gaps are often close to the surface:

jobsites, subs, certificates, workers comp, and claims that usually have a process story behind them.

Trucking is also on my radar.

My CDL and logistics background give me a different respect for what operators carry every day.

Change usually does not show up when everything is comfortable.

It shows up when you get tired of explaining away the same pattern.

The same delay.
The same stress.
The same excuse.
The same version of yourself trying to survive a system that no longer fits.

At some point, the question is not, “Can I keep going?”

The question is, “What is this old way costing me?”

That is where the shift starts.

Not with guilt.
Not with shame.
Not with proving anything to everybody else.

It starts when you stop protecting what is familiar and start building what actually moves you forward.

Me and my wife were riding down 85 South in Atlanta, just talking about life.

We got on the subject of why some people seem to respect and love the ones who wrong them, but turn around and hurt the ones who love them and stay loyal.

That one sat with me.

Sometimes people do not know how to receive real love because they have gotten used to survival, pride, pain, or people who only showed up with conditions.

Then my wife said something simple that brought the whole conversation back home:

“Forgive them, for they know not what they do.”

That does not mean you keep letting people hurt you.

It means you can protect your peace without letting bitterness move into your heart.

Love people with wisdom.

Forgive people with boundaries.

And never let how someone handles your loyalty make you regret having a good heart.
