Mark Alkins can break down a race before the gun even goes off. It’s the same instinct he brings to research.
He’s spent most of his life training for pressure: a sub-five-minute mile in middle school, crushing the 800 through high school and college, and winning an ACC Indoor Championship with UNC. Two years into his career as a Research Manager at The Link Group, he says the hardest part was never the part people can see.
In this episode of Connection Point, host Jeff Whiteside talks with Mark about what actually makes racing hard, why he still coaches track at his old high school, and how the lessons from running a relay show up now on a project team.
Turns out the real race happens somewhere you can’t clock it.
