The boy with profoundly disabling Down Syndrome was Muhammed Bhar.
He was 24 years old, nonverbal, unable to care for himself—including requiring feeding and diapering. He had mobility issues because of his weight, so even when complicit with orders, he had to take breaks every few steps.
I know every story mentioned in this post, and so many more, but the images that truly, truly horrified me were of the slow, excruciating, entirely man-made starvation of Yazan Sharif Al-Kafarnah.
Yazan was 10 years old. He had severe Cerebral Palsy, and he needed a nutrient enriched diet, medication and supplement injections, and physical therapy. He had none of this after Israel started leveling Gaza.
He weighed 11 pounds when he died.
A ten year-old.
It's genocide.
