I too believe

I usually try to spend a little time every night researching Atlantic City or reading through a few old newspapers. Recently I came across Carson’s Triangle and ended up down another rabbit hole.

Stan and Madeline Carson opened the bar in 1934 at New Hampshire Avenue and Grammercy Place in the Inlet. With Prohibition over the former bootlegger had gone legit. Their way of getting people through the door? Free fried shrimp.

It worked. Carson’s grew into a popular seafood restaurant known for its French fried shrimp and lobster tails. What started as a bar giving away shrimp became part of Atlantic City’s dining history before it burned down in 1976.

“Show them how to have fun. Teach them to fly.”

The Sea Gulls played at Convention Hall in the 1930s and returned after World War II. In 1933 they even faced the New York Rangers in an exhibition.

Art Dorrington arrived to play for the Sea Gulls in 1950. That same year he became the first Black hockey player to sign an NHL contract with the Rangers organization.

Then came the Boardwalk Bullies. They played at Boardwalk Hall from 2001 through 2005 and brought home the Kelly Cup in 2003
