Itβs that time of year again: International Bat Week! The great thing about helping bats β whether you build a bat house, avoid using pesticides on your lawn or join the Wisconsin Bat Program as a volunteer β is that they help you back.
How can something so tiny be helpful? These fuzzy fliers are insect-eating machines! They can eat up to 1,000 mosquito-sized insects per hour, which can improve human health and save farmers and foresters up to billions of dollars yearly by reducing agricultural pests.
Half of Wisconsinβs eight bat species are threatened, including the big brown bat pictured here. During Bat Week and throughout the year, they can use our help!
