This week our Paper Wrangler and production powerhouse Catalina took a trip to Dallas, TX for the Printing United Alliance G7+ Expert Training!

G7+ is Printing United Alliance’s global set of specifications for achieving visual color consistency across all print processes. In other words, Cat is now basically a color-expert superhero. 🎨🦸‍♀️

The oldest known printed Valentine’s Day card was published in London on January 12, 1797, by John Fairburn. It featured hand-colored, engraved illustrations of Cupid 🏹, sweet little doves 🕊️, and delicate floral borders 🌸 — with romantic verses printed around the edges. Talk about classic charm!

In the United States, Esther A. Howland — lovingly known as the “Mother of the American Valentine” — began selling elaborate, lace-trimmed cards in the 1840s from her Worcester, Massachusetts shop 💕. Inspired by beautiful English designs, she helped spark a Valentine’s card craze that quickly spread across the country!

Today, approximately 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged each year in the U.S. alone 💘 — making it the second-largest card-sending holiday after Christmas! 🎄

We may be a little biased… but we adore an old-fashioned Valentine card 🥰💖 There’s just something extra sweet about a heartfelt note on beautiful paper!

♻️The recycling rate for cardboard, what the industry calls corrugated, is 71%-76%. More than 2/3 of recycled paper goes into new products. Paper is recycled more than any other material in the US municipal waste stream, making paper a truly circular product. 🧻
