Leadership isn’t about being a rescue boat.
It’s about being a lighthouse.

A rescue boat chases every storm, every crisis, every call for help. Evenually they are exhausted and sinking themself. A lighthouse doesn’t chase anything. It stands firm. It’s built on a solid foundation. It shines consistently.

A lighthouse doesn’t save people by pulling them in.
It saves people by showing them where they are, what’s dangerous, and where safe ground exists.

As leaders, our job isn’t to fix everyone or carry them through their storms. Our job is to live with clarity, integrity, and purpose. We stand firm to be the light for others.

Be steady.
Be visible.
Be anchored.

The right people will find their way.

Growth requires honoring the past without being bound by it.

Traditions keep us grounded, but nostalgia when it becomes our decision maker can hold us back from the change we need.

Strong organizations remember where they came from, but they also know when it is time to build what comes next.

In less than two weeks, I’ve lost two people I considered mentors and friends, two men who shaped my journey in ways I can never fully put into words. My last words to one were, I love you, brother. But for the other, I can’t remember what I said. And that’s been weighing heavily on me.

It makes me think about all the things we leave unsaid, the gratitude we assume they already know, the apologies we think we have time for, the appreciation we never quite put into words. We get caught up in life, expecting another conversation, another opportunity, another tomorrow.

But if I’ve learned anything from this, it’s that now is the time. Say what you need to say. Tell people what they mean to you. Don’t let the important things go unspoken. Because in the end, it’s not just about remembering them—it’s about knowing they left this world having heard the words that mattered most.

Rest easy, my brothers.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the unexpected passing of Eugene Gene Perrino Sr., State A/Q of Florida, a leader, mentor, and friend to so many. As President of the A/Q Association, Gene’s dedication and unwavering support lifted those around him; always ready to defend, assist, and guide with wisdom and kindness. His impact on this organization and the people within it cannot be overstated.

Gene had a way of bringing people together, fostering camaraderie, and ensuring that no one stood alone. His friendship meant the world to many of us, and I know that I will forever be grateful for his guidance and support. His absence leaves a void, but his legacy will live on in the lives he touched and the values he upheld.

Rest easy, my friend. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

I know its been awhile but I've been a little busy. IYKYK, but for those who don't...I've spent the last year juggling chainsaws while riding a unicycle (at least that's how it felt 😀)!

What excites me most is the opportunity to bring what I’ve learned in the Harvard Business Analytics Program ( ) back to Team Texas. Balancing my amazingly supportive family, my commitment to the Texas VFW, and excelling in this program over the past year has been an incredible journey that I'm truly grateful for.

The skills and insights I’ve gained will help us serve Veterans and complete our mission more efficiently. I can’t wait to see the impact we’ll make together. I'm looking forward to celebrating this milestone at Harvard Business School campus in December!

Armed Forces Day was created in 1949 as a way to have a unified celebration of all branches of our military.
