Enjoyed being with my clients, NICA - National Infusion Center Association, at their annual conference in Vegas! I led a workshop on the “Power of Story: Turning Advocacy into Action,” It was a great opportunity to help demystify advocacy and empower people to share their personal stories with lawmakers. Enjoy this series of facial expressions and hand gestures as I work to bring my content to life!

Life's Better in a State of Travel. That's the tag line for the Texas Travel Alliance, and it might as well be my personal motto! I love to travel, and I love exploring this great big, beautiful state of ours. Very much looking forward to returning for my annual visit to Tourism College where I'll help leaders in the industry better tell their story and advocate for policies that promote growth and economic opportunity.

I had the privilege of moderating a truly great conversation last week at the LeadHERShip Live conference put on by the Texas Travel Alliance and the Texas Society of Association Executives hosted by Visit The Woodlands.

In conversation with three powerhouse leaders, we talked about how to Navigate Conflict with Confidence. Margo Richards, Angela R. Davis, MBA, CAE and Kelly Woodward were candid, honest and thoughtful, and their combined lessons were a true masterclass that I want to share with you all. Here's a summary of the conversation that I gave at the end of the panel. Lessons for new professionals, seasoned executives - and men and women alike!

• Take your seat at the table.
• Bring solutions along with the problems you raise.
• Don’t avoid difficult conversations. When you have them, set clear expectations and follow-up to ensure clarity.
• You can be compassionate and kind.
• It is a superpower to be able to adapt to your environment while staying true to yourself.
• Build relationships and rapport with colleagues. It makes tough conversations and feedback easier when you are in relationship.
• Praise publicly. Critique privately.
• In difficult conversations (and always!) body language matters. Context matters.
• Don’t match negative energy.
• Set boundaries and be consistent with your boundaries.
• It’s OK to take the risk before you’re ready.
• Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
• Make time for your family.
• You belong in the room.

I recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to the top of the iconic UT Tower to take in the incredible view and learn more about the major renovation taking place. Following the tour, I attended the Texas Leadership Society Luncheon to learn more about the amazing things happening at The University of Texas at Austin and how our students, professors and researchers are making cutting edge discoveries in a wild range of fields. Incredibly proud to be an alumnus of the Moody College of Communication and to serve in a number of capacities across campus. Leadership has never been easy — but today’s environment demands extraordinary clarity and conviction. Last fall, I had the chance to keynote the Texas Society of Association Executives Annual Conference. They later asked me to turn that talk into an article, and the topic couldn’t be more timely.

Leaders today are navigating nonstop pressure — polarization, constant news cycles, member skepticism, and cultural flashpoints that can pull organizations in a dozen directions at once. In the piece, I explore how organizations can move from survival mode to strategic momentum by finding their version of “swing” — that moment of alignment when everyone is pulling in the same direction.

A few takeaways:
• Why mission, vision, and values must anchor decision-making
• How to build trust before a crisis hits
• How to stay strategic instead of reactive when the stakes are high
