Every page gets scored on these three. Hit all three — you get cited. Miss one — you’re invisible.

01 — “Can I quote this directly?” (45% weight)
If your page can be excerpted in 2-3 sentences without losing meaning, you pass. The biggest single factor in citation.

02 — “Can I trust this source?” (35% weight)
Author credentials, expert quotes, named data — trust signals stack. Generic bylines fail this test.

03 — “Is this recent?” (20% weight)
Last-updated date, fresh stats, schema metadata. Stale = skipped. Refresh dates every 90 days minimum.

📊 The pages that ace all three see 5–10× more citations than pages strong in only one. The math is unforgiving — getting two of three right isn’t enough.

AI engines follow links to understand topic authority. Build the right structure — or watch citations leak.

The pattern that works:
🟡 PILLAR → One big page that answers everything at the highest level (e.g., “What is AEO?”)
🟣 CLUSTERS → 3-5 mid-level sub-topic pages (Schema, Content, Authority, Measurement)
🔵 LEAVES → Specific tactical pages (FAQ schema, HowTo schema, etc.)

3 PRINCIPLES THAT MATTER

01 — One pillar per topic. The big page that answers everything at the highest level.

02 — All clusters link UP. Every sub-page links back to the pillar — not the other way around. This concentrates authority.

03 — Anchor text = real query. Use the actual user question users would type, not “click here” or brand terms.

Why this works: AI engines treat well-linked clusters as “this brand owns this topic.” The hub becomes the canonical source. The leaves feed it authority.
