purchased the Austin American-Statesman.
“When Hearst purchased us on March 1, it immediately threw out our labor contract and all of its protections. We are asking Hearst to stop giving us worse employment terms than our managers, including 60% less paternity leave and 75% less 401(K) match, as well as no protections against the use of AI to do the work of journalists. Already, Hearst has laid off our local copy editors and now uses AI to do some of the editing of our stories. Hearst has taken our state desk reporters and consolidated them into one Hearst desk.”
