Speaking from my own journey, the mental aspect of recovery post-physical trauma is often the toughest, yet most overlooked in hospitals. Could entertainment hold the key to transforming patient care?

After we bonded at SXSW a few years back over shared health challenges and a desire to help others, Ted Schilowitz, leading industry Futurist for companies such as Futurist for Paramount Global and 20th Century Fox, and I became instant friends. So, when Ted told me about his vision for the new nonprofit that he was pursuing to lean further into this call to help others using the power of entertainment in the health industry, I was immediately on board.

Partnering with the brilliant tech genius Gregory Roberts (who has created such experiences for Disney, Red Bull, the NFL, Mercedes-Benz, and NASA, amongst others)we're uniting tech and hospitals to enhance the patient experience — to transform the patient experience from miserable to magical.

Thank you Austin Business Journal for the lovely write-up. In retrospect, I probably should have realized something was up when you sent a photographer to do a photoshoot at our house!

While I’m not sure I would consider myself a “boss” I am incredibly honored by the write-up and humbled by the brilliant team, partners and clients I get to work with and the wonderful husband and family that make it possible to continue to run a business. Every person who wins an award is surrounded and supported by one hell of an ecosystem.

On that note, I want to point out that some of the answers, when translated from third person write-up to first person interview, say “I” instead of “Kana and team” or “the team”— which doesn’t sit right with me. Nothing worth accomplishing is done alone and I want to give credit to at least a few of the incredibly inspiring people that I have had the honor to work with both through the agency and our women’s rights activist group — without whom most of what we have accomplished over the past few years would still be an ADHD mess inside my head.

Completely shocked and honored to be recognized as a Winner of the Austin Business Journal Business Journal ‘s Women in Business Awards. Thank you to the ABJ team, speakers and sponsors for putting on such an incredible event that highlights the work of women that often flies under the radar.

In a state like Texas, where women no longer have executive power over our own bodies, an event of this nature hits harder.

Seeing over 700 men and women, packed in a room — to celebrate the professionals that buck against the steep gender equity gap — is energizing.

I’m so grateful to my team, collaborators, friends and family who are there on the less glamorous days where the bias that exists on every task, at every level is palpable.

Congratulations to all the incredible winners, finalists and all of nominees of yesterday’s event — I am in awe of every one of you. The snippets of your journeys you shared are only a glimpse of what you have overcome and I applaud you.

Let’s continue to push forward together for a more equitable future for women — and all muted voices — so that someday we can be in a world where business awards no longer need to be gendered.
