But why is a bleed important you ask? When we print products such as business cards and postcards, we do not print on paper of that size. We organize several products next to one another on a larger parent sheet of paper to print, and then trim each individual product to size. Jobs cannot be trimmed perfectly on the trimming line each time. During the trimming process, a product may be trimmed within or beyond the trimming line. As a result, the product may have a white edge, or a portion of the artwork from the surrounding jobs if it lacks bleed information. Thus, we require a bleed on each individual product so that when the product is trimmed, there is an extra margin to prevent imperfections.

Bleeds are one of the most important facets of any artwork that you send to print. Happy printing!

Typography Rules Every Designer Should Know!

1. Understand kerning- A sloppy kerning job is one of the cardinal sins in the design world.
2. Limit your fonts- If you need more than one, make sure to limit your fonts to just two to three typefaces.
3. Work with grids- Working with a grid ensures that every little thing on the page is put in relation to something else to produce logical and visual harmony.
4. Secondary font for pairing- When you have both a heading and a subhead, use two different typefaces that complement each other to establish visual hierarchy.
5. Prioritize readability- You can have a striking design, but all your efforts will go to waste if your text is unintelligible.
6. Color palette is important-When putting together a font palette, dig into the color theory to pinpoint the right colors intended for your design.
7. White space- Keep in mind that white space is NOT an empty space. White space is a distinctive and valuable tool that can bring out something special from your design. Don't overclutter!
8. Use and treat typography as art!
