Proud to share this recognition. 🎙️

Ivan Montelongo — known professionally as Bay Phoenix — has been named to the Top Latinos 2026 Edition, and the story behind this honor is worth knowing.

Based in Folsom, California, Ivan built his career from the ground up. No degree. No shortcuts. Just an relentless work ethic and an ear for sound that opened doors most people only read about.

Here's what that journey looks like:
đź’ĄStarted mixing for major Bay Area and Northern California rap artists by age 19
đź’ĄWorked directly for Curtis Young, son of Dr. Dre, gaining an inside view of how the industry actually operates
đź’ĄTrained under Grammy Award-winning and world-class mentors in production, mixing, and mastering
đź’ĄServed as head audio engineer at the Moscone Center in San Francisco
đź’ĄExpanded into post-production, mixing audio for the documentary The City of Sensitive Frauds
đź’ĄIn March 2026, traveled to Death Row Records to work with Snoop Dogg on a podcast project

That last one did not happen by chance. It happened because Ivan spent a decade building skills that speak for themselves.

Bay Phoenix Studios is the result of all of it — a studio founded by someone who has worked at every level of this industry and brought that experience to every session.

I love stories like this! A waitress who maintained composure and always showed respect. A veteran who has been hardened by the atrocities he undoubtedly saw. But in the end, it turns out that they both had hearts of gold. đź’›

Melina Salazar’s kindness to a difficult regular at a Brownsville, Texas, Luby’s became a story that still travels years later. For nearly seven years, she served Walter “Buck” Swords, an 89-year-old World War II veteran known for complaints, harsh words, and strict demands about his meals. While other staff found him hard to handle, Salazar kept treating him with patience and care.

After Swords died in 2007, Salazar learned near Christmas that he had left her $50,000 and his 2000 Buick. Reports from the time said he had named her in his will because her kindness had mattered to him more than she knew. Salazar, who had described him as “kind of mean,” said she still could not believe the gift.

Viral posts often frame the story as a lesson about serving someone everyone else avoided, and that part has roots in real reporting. Some retellings add extra detail, but the main claim is true: a World War II veteran rewarded a waitress who had shown him steady grace during his final years. Her story remains a reminder that small acts of patience can leave a mark we may never see coming. 🤍🍽️
