One thing I’ve learned: don’t waste space! With that in mind, I’m converting my favorite room in my Baltimore row house back to a portrait and podcast studio. I have plans, baby! Stay tuned. Locally, I really want to support artists that can’t afford super creative photography for promotional work. Nationally, I want to go back on camera, exploring the LGBTQ communities across the world. No one ever said I had small dreams.

You know what they say…change happens! And one of the things I typically like most IS change. I see it as opportunity to try new things, and explore new creative possibilities. That’s what’s going on right now with several large clients— change. How am I prepping? For one thing, I’m ripping out my old studio and storage room and clearing space for a new studio right here at my house in Baltimore. I’m thinking of going back in front of the camera. I’m also thinking of offering local LGBTQIA performers a low to no cost place to get promotional imaging done. With so many local talented performers struggling, maybe I can help. Let’s see where this whirlwind lands. Meanwhile, it’s time to prep for a repeat job in Denver. So, the more things change, the more they stay the same.

It’s been a minute since I’ve seen John Leppler , but that changes today when I’ve been invited back to his offices to shoot new imaging for his web site and social media. I don’t shoot a lot of personal branding, but marketing yourself as the face behind a service— in this case personal injury— isn’t far removed from the other photo marketing that’s become my passion. Photos tell our story. They capture a moment in time that marks where we are in that moment. As our chapters are written, and we move throughout our individual life journeys, being tasked with the responsibility of marking those passages in that transcendent journey really is an honor. I’m not the same guy who I was a few years back when I took this photo; My own journey has forged me. Looking through those glasses, it helps me remember how important my job is beyond the surface aspects of commercial marketing. It helps remind me of why I got into photography to begin with: I am a historian.

Remeber this post? Well, i posted the same from my super secret account I keep for my alter-ego; but That’s a story for another day. What’s important now is this: THAT post was re-posted on Instagram by a a glittering array of celebs that are involved with The Rocky Horror Show, and one notable celeb reposted it it whom I didn’t know, because, according to Ken, I’m a bad gay. The Ken informed me who the mystery woman behind the dark glasses in her thumbnail was: Anna Wintour. So, measure us for our Met Gala wear, because, yeah, THAT happened.

This weekend, Saturday night, I rise from the near undead to do two things: 1) pet my Kat, who is very needy and 2) dance on the famous CODE Box at the Baltimore Eagle. The theme? Oh, silly, retro night, duh! Now ACT UP, remember, Groove is in the heart, and it’s all about those DAMNED CHA CHA HEELS.

Somewhere, in my travels, I picked up something. No, not that kind of something. The kind where you spend two days sleeping in bed, wrapped in two down comforters, both hot and cold, unable to eat, dreaming of— yes this is totally what I dreamed— a disappearing chorus of nuns, an endless buffet of food mysteriously set up in my hotel room. Being abandoned at the beach (by the psychologist I interned for in college) and having to walk home to Baltimore with a mysterious wealthy (he had a beachside magical house) but apparently car-less, hot guy with a giant dog — but a phone gps that every time I put in my address it simply ordered another shirt on Amazon. I got home from NYC Monday evening. It’s now 7:30 on Wednesday. While I didn’t sleep that entire time, I did most of it. Finally, this morning, the fever broke. While the gym will wait until tomorrow, Kat is screaming at me to get up, have some coffee, and to suck it up, buttercup. Pretty sure that’s not a fever dream.
