Feeling so grateful that I got the opportunity to work with Blank Slate to bring their website to life for one of their newest properties in Res Hill!

I'm excited to share that the website is now live, and they're currently accepting applications for new residents!

You can check it out here: https://carltonreshill.com

A once vacant Reservoir Hill apartment building has a new life thanks to a $2.6 million project that was once part of a major movie.

Your budget is tight, but you reaaally need a website, but every designer you find has high rates & fees...

When considering a website, it's important to maintain the mindset that a website is an *investment* for your business.

They also require time and effort to put together. And, if you're someone who isn't the most well versed, or who doesn't have the time to create one, it's going to come as no surprise that web design isn't as "cheap" as most people think.

HOWEVER. That doesn't mean that there aren't ways you can save money. Here are some things I suggest to clients looking to invest, but not break the bank:

01. Re-envision your website
Most web designers are charging per page, or per hour/day. The more intricate a website is (i.e. the more pages and details), the longer it's going to take to create. For some, I recommend getting a simple 4-page site up and running, and revisiting with your designer in the future to add on more pages, if needed, when budget allows.

02. Consider payment plans
If a project quote is higher than you anticipated, but you really love the work this designer offers, ask about payment plan options! Many web designers are now beginning to offer payment plans that allows you to pay over 2-4 months' time to alleviate some financial burden.

Ringing in 2024 with my first web design project of the new year! 🎉

I had the pleasure of working with Melissa Wesner, LCPC to help create a brand new Squarespace website for her podcast, The Dreaming & Doing Podcast, which launched Jan 2nd.

This website features the newest podcast episodes, show notes, transcription, as well as information about Melissa, and upcoming events.

If they don't do these things, it may be a red flag... 🚩🚩🚩

01. Listen to the concepts you have for your vision
Most business owners have, at least, a glimmer of a vision of what they imagine their future website to be. Whether you know what colors you want, the overall "feel" you want your site to exude, or you have a idea of how you want it organized, a seasoned web designer will take this into account with their design process.

02. Be transparent (this is 🔑)
This includes honesty and transparency regarding: what their strengths and weaknesses may be, an idea on timelines/expectations as well as updates along the way, and honesty regarding what may or may not be "doable."

03. Respond to emails/calls in a timely manner
While, no, a web designer is not your employee, any professional relationship should come with a mutual understanding of when to expect follow-up. Offering to schedule check-in times via email, phone, or video chat can be helpful, and should be respected if both parties agree!

04. Be available to answer any questions/concerns
An experienced web designer will know the ins and outs of creating and using a website, but you may not have the same level of knowledge! If you have questions about the website host you're using, how to use certain features, or how to take things over once your time together is done, a web designer should be able to provide answers to those questions. Ongoing website maintenance is also another option, if offered!

So, business is slow... now what?

First, don't stress! It's easy to stress yourself and worry about not hitting your benchmark.

Most businesses experience, at some point, a period of lower revenue and less traffic. And there are factors that can contribute to that, especially at certain times of the year (like holidays!).

When business is slow, take some time to look at these areas of your business to see if there are things you can work on in your "down time"

01. Analytic integration/connection
Check to make sure your website is properly connected and integrated with Google Analytics and Google Search Console to ensure you're getting proper results!

02. Website traffic patterns
Are there consistencies in website traffic? Does it often happen at certain times of day, or times of the year? Make note. If it's something that is consistent, you may not need to worry. Sudden drops in traffic may mean you need to keep a closer eye to find out why!

03. Website optimization
Have you refreshed your website lately? Spruced up your website content? Double checked that prices are reflective of your current rates? Now is the time to do some keyword research and see if there are useful keywords your site might be missing out on!
