The most critical role for us as African publishers is ensuring we do not become the know-it-all or/and the end-all.
We must ensure that the legacy continues and that we pass on the tradition so others can not only continue it but also make it bigger, better, and more sustainable.
Remember the path breaking work of TWP, BCP, Red Sea Press, Just US Books, etc. and those before them like Dr. Woodson and others.
Today, to my knowledge, there is not a single Black University Press, despite the long academic tradition of the HBCUs. HU had a wonderful Press that produced great books, but no more. As far as I am concerned, it is a tragedy. Many Black independent publishers continue to struggle, but for how long?
