Do this first BEFORE you write a new blog post

Google and LLMs love fresh content, but they also hate content that lacks any purpose.

It's only a matter of time before some of your older blog posts become outdated or irrelevant, even if the topics are good topics!

And, it's also true that some of the blog posts you've written in the past were on topics that made sense for your brand, but for one reason or another, those blog posts did not perform.

So, before you write a new blog post you should:

1. Delete old blog posts that have no SEO or marketing value (make sure to add 301 redirects if they need them!)

2. Determine which older blog posts need a rewrite or an upgrade that will help them perform better on Google

Once those items are taken care of, your fresh content will have a greater chance of performing than if you had published it alongside your outdated and underperforming posts.

Non-Branded Keywords vs Branded Keywords

An important concept for understanding how to measure SEO results and also what to target with your SEO campaign.

For a brand that manufactures or produces its own products, you'll want your SEO agency to target non-branded keywords.

This is because you will already "own" your branded phrases for both the name of your brand and the names of your products. (If you don't, you need to fix this.)

There won't be as much value in focusing on your branded keyword rankings as those terms will have fluctuating traffic volumes that are influenced by other marketing efforts, like paid advertising, PR, influencers, and so on.

On the other side of the keyword landscape are the non-branded keywords that are important to your brand. These are search terms that people type in to discover brands they might consider when making a purchase. Think "best leather bags" or "leather sling bag."

Improving your keyword rankings for these non-branded keywords can provide a positive ROI to your SEO investment as you'll be attracting sales from new customers who didn't already know about you and also introduce your brand to new people who might consider purchasing from you in the future.
