Like most organizations, you must speak to several audiences at different times, making it challenging to create a standard marketing procedure for your team to replicate. However, without these procedures (or a marketing partner), you will always need to be hands-on with every marketing piece released–down to the social post. This isn’t realistic for scaling your impact to more affected neighborhoods and cities that need support.

Summer is over and Fall is on the horizon! Do you have events for your nonprofit planned coming up? Did you know that according to Classy's 2022 Fundraising Event Experience Report, over 92% of both virtual and in-person event attendees say they’re likely to donate during an event in addition to registration and participation costs?

Events allow you to connect to the people who power your impact and give them a way to engage and support in real-time. But how do you get people to show up? (In-person or virtually!) Here are a few tips I have below!

Timing is everything because who doesn't love a good build-up? Think about launching a rocket. Countless years/months of research, planning, testing, and promotion not only prepare for a successful launch but also excite everyone that is waiting to see what they are launching and how to participate.

This works for your marketing campaigns as well. Posting about your nonprofit's event once may not create the response you're seeking, especially if you don't have already an engaged audience ready to support your efforts. But, by planning a specific time frame to tease what's coming, an active period to proudly and publicly promote what you do, and a reflective time to see what worked and what didn't, you set up an opportunity for your nonprofit's efforts to soar!

When’s the last time you heard a great story? One that drew you in and took you on an emotional journey? Wasn’t it amazing? Whether you cried, laughed, or felt anger/sadness, you immediately connected with the content. Nonprofits of every scale should incorporate storytelling into their website, organic social media, and digital advertising to increase engagement, donations, and attract volunteers!

Here's our take on organic vs paid marketing. You need BOTH to work together. Once you're able to create a digital budget within your overall marketing budget, diversifying your marketing dollars gives you the best chance to reach more of the right people at the right time. Paid marketing also encompasses billboards, print ads, and paid placements, but I push continually for digital paid ads so you have a clearer view of what's working and where traffic is coming from.

Paid advertising doesn't mean your organization should totally ditch all your other marketing–they just amplify what you're already doing. If sending the yearly direct mail works, do that! But don't wait all year to market to your community.

Building a strong digital ecosystem for your organization means leveraging different channels and tactics for your strategies.
