We had the chance to create the promotional artwork for WV Collective’s upcoming production of Bat Boy: The Musical, and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get a little weird with it.

The poster illustration was hand-drawn by Hannah, our in-house illustrator here at Kid in the Background, Inc, giving the whole piece a look and feel that’s completely its own.

From the eerie Appalachian-night atmosphere to Bat Boy himself, every detail was created to capture the strange, dark, and wonderfully offbeat energy of the show. We’re pretty proud of how this one came together; we're even more excited to see it out in the wild!

We’re proud to have played a part in a project that will continue growing alongside our community! 🌳🍎

Kid in the Background co-owner Tiffany Jenkins, along with her fellow members of the Leadership Beckley Class of 2025–2026, helped bring Growing Beckley: A Community Orchard Project to life next to the Prosperity Community Center. The new community orchard was officially celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 28!

Kid in the Background co-owner Jamie Smith also played an integral role in the project, overseeing the development of the orchard’s logo, signage, and visual mockups. Our own Hannah Edwards designed the project’s logo, helping give the orchard a visual identity that can grow alongside it for years to come.

Tiffany had one very special classmate along for nearly the entire Leadership Beckley experience—Baby Liam! She was pregnant with Liam throughout most of the program and welcomed him into the world with only two class meetings remaining. Liam attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony as the youngest honorary member of the Leadership Beckley class! 💚

Congratulations to Tiffany and the entire Leadership Beckley Class of 2025–2026 on completing a project that will provide fresh fruit, educational opportunities, and a lasting resource for the community. We’re honored to be a part of it!

This week, Kid in the Background, Inc had the honor of opening our studio to an incredible group of Southern West Virginia musicians for a very special recording of The Wallace Horn Friendly Neighbor Show.

The session celebrated the music of Beckley native and legendary songwriter Bill Withers, with a deeply meaningful guest at the center of it all: Kori Withers, Bill’s daughter.

Kori visited Beckley to learn more about the community that helped shape her father before he became one of the world’s most beloved solo artists. Throughout the session, she shared thoughtful stories about her father’s inspiration, his songwriting, and the roots that connected him back to this area. Then, surrounded by a room full of local musicians, she performed her own versions of Bill’s songs with live backing accompaniment.

It was one of those rare creative moments where music, history, family, and community all came together in the same room. Everyone who was there left with a deeper appreciation for Bill Withers’ legacy — and a real reason to feel proud of where we’re from.

We’re grateful to have played a small part in helping capture this experience.

Be sure to keep that celebration going this weekend at the 2026 Bill Withers Festival, happening Saturday, June 27 from 4–9 PM at Bill Withers Plaza in Downtown Beckley. We’re proud to share the latest video from the WV Building & Construction Trades, highlighting the work of Mechanical Insulators Local 80 and the REAL opportunities available through union apprenticeship programs.

These careers offer hands-on training, strong wages, and a clear path forward—without the burden of student debt.

Projects like this matter because they help shine a light on the skilled trades and the people who keep our industries moving.
