The Maplewood Hotel in Bethlehem . Hotel postcard is from 1919. Bethlehem’s largest hotel that boasted many cottages and inns, a casino, a golf course, train station, and its own post office in the early 1900’s. An article from the Bethlehem Historical Society states that this hotel had the first electric lights in the north country. Built in 1876, the hotel was destroyed by fire on January 14, 1963. The Maplewood Casino was not a gambling facility, but rather an entertainment facility where good music and stage acts played. It also had reading and social rooms, tennis courts, a swimming pool, billiard rooms, 3 bowling alleys, and, of course, great 18 hole golf.
