ICYMI: Last Saturday, Stenton and The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America- Pennsylvania hosted the 3rd Annual Dinah Day to commemorate the date in 1776, months before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, when Dinah, a formerly enslaved Black woman, demanded and won her freedom from slavery. The day included reflections at the Dinah Memorial, tours, crafts and children's activities, community healing, and the screening of Dinah’s episode of the docuseries “For the Common Good: The Women Who Shaped our Nation.”

Last week, the African-American Chamber of Commerce of PA, NJ, and DE hosted the 3rd annual Women’s Business Empowerment Luncheon. At this sold-out event, women from across the Greater Philadelphia region came together to network and hear from dynamic speakers on how they can secure capital, develop a portfolio strategy, and position themselves for sustained growth.

Today, women-owned businesses make up nearly 40 percent of all U.S. enterprises with Black women-owned businesses experiencing over 50 percent growth between 2014 and 2019. This much needed gathering put a spotlight on how women entrepreneurs continue to advance business, strengthen communities, and contribute to our region’s economic vitality.
