I was learning how to use Google’s NotebookLM when I realized the audio overview could also be used as a podcast create. I uploaded a blog post “Career advice form a graphic designer,” and NotebookLM created a podcast with two “hosts” excitededly discussing my blog post. Other than a few nuances it missed, it did a great job talking about my post. Would this be a great alternative to recording podcast episodes? Possibly. It’s another reason we need to stay on top of how AI is changing how we workevery day. If you would like to hear the AI podcast episode, go to the link and at the bottom of the article is the audio file.

Imagine creating a podcast without ever stepping in front of a microphone. Today, thanks to AI, you can bring your words to life in ways that were unimaginable just a few years ago.

I enjoyed turning my first podcast into a book so much, that I started a second podcast and turned the first three seasons into a book. Read what I learned from the process.

During covid lockdown, I took a limited-episode podcast I had been producing and turned it into a book. This blog post tells the story of how I made the pivot and embraced the C.O.P.E, “Create Once, Publish Everywhere,” methodology. It also gave me the opportunity to reenter a niche market of mine, producing books.

I wrote and designed a book based on my podcast the "Shades Cahaba Oral History Project" using C.O.P.E. “Create Once, Publish Everywhere."

With all the angst that AI is coming for our jobs, I have chosen to figure out how to leverage it and use it to my benefit. This is just one small case study using ChatGPT to help me write an email. The attached image was created using the Midjourney AI app. We still have a ways to go on images.

I used an AI bot to write an email to potential customers, and here are examples I was given. Find out how you can use AI in your business.

This post is for my fellow artists. After my freshman year at Auburn, I asked my dad for a subscription to Communication Arts magazine. It was expensive, and I thought it was a long shot. But having a graphic designer father has its perks, and I soon got my first issue. The September/October 1982 issue showed up in a protective cardboard sleeve at my fraternity house. When I opened it, the cover illustration jumped out at me. It was by the illustrator Marshall Arisman. When I think of CA magazine, I always think of this image. This was just the first issue of decades of receiving the magazine, but I always think back to this issue. So much so that a couple of weeks back, I found the cover online and downloaded it. I was sad to hear that Marshall Arisman passed away on April 22, around the time his illustration popped into my head. While I never became an illustrator, his work, specifically this illustration, was there at the beginning for me.

A fraternity brother reached out, asking me to send his niece some advice. She had recently graduated college and was embarking on a career as a graphic designer. My first thought was that I should have talked to her four years ago to talk her out of her career choice. I was joking, but only a little bit.

I was trying to come up with a quick bit of unsolicited advice from a stranger that she would enjoy. Then I realized there is so much to unpack from decades of work. Here is what I came up with.

I actually sent her just a couple of short paragraphs of encouragement because what recent grad wants to read all this. Instead, I have saved it for you, the internet.

A friend asked for advice for his new graphic designer niece. There is so much to unpack from decades of work, but here is what I came up with.

Too often companies are being judged on their brand image, not the quality of their products and services. I have been helping companies fix bland brands for over 35 years. I develop brands you can be proud of, that make prospects sit up and take notice and increase sales.
