It’s great work all around our region, and we support the vision of Onward NRV, the Roanoke - Blacksburg Technology Council and Montgomery County VA Chamber of Commerce! Tech requires Community, and our communities are defined by the good nonprofit work around us!

Helping with Lego robotics camp today! Every summer, Team 4924 Pandas offers a few weeks of programming and building with Lego. Today’s final day features underwater habitats built by 5 to 8 year olds, with a motor and sensor the campers program! We invest in our future STEM professionals because this is a great region for technology careers!

Dear Hive:

Way back in 2003 I was working on my first nonprofit project in my community of Shawsville, Virginia, to revitalize an abandoned nursing home.

Our group of volunteers had little money and no experience, but one organization was willing to believe in us and award us our first grant: Community Foundation of the New River Valley.

In many ways, the Community Foundation showed me what being a buzz4good was all about.

Fast forward 22 years and this Wednesday at 12 noon EDT I get to bring my show BUZZ Live! to Blacksburg to kick off the Community Foundation's 12th annual GiveLocalNRV!

On the stage of the historic Lyric Theatre we'll feature some of the 121 nonprofits – along with two musical guests! – who are all competing to raise vital funds to support their missions through this day of giving.

Hurray for the Montgomery County VA Chamber of Commerce new Spring Golf Tournament! We had a GREAT time, the weather was nice, food was great and friends were the best. Our team placed 2nd in a very competitive match (4 of the teams were all 13 under par). Super staff at Auburn Hills Golf Club, too!

There's a great lineup of events promoted by the Montgomery County VA Chamber of Commerce in the next two weeks, from the Business Expo on 11/6, PC Land ribbon cutting 11/11 (Veteran's Day), Eggs & Issues (my favorite!), the new 7 Brew Drive Thru, and a lunch & learn for non-profits!

Thanks to our elite panelists Bobby Turnage with Sands Anderson, Jeff Wynn of New River Computing, Moe McClanahan, retired crime specialist from Christiansburg Police Department, and Natalie Suarez of ConnectWise. Professor Art Carter of Radford University moderated. Every first Thursday of the month, it’s a great networking breakfast with timely topics!
