Your old ad network blamed you for their broken script.

That's exactly what happened to Serebii's — one of the internet's most trusted Pokémon fan sites — before they made the switch to Playwire.

Here's what followed:
➡️ 3x RPS improvement year-over-year
➡️ ~283% increase in monthly revenue YoY
➡️ 17% immediate increase in keyword volume (turns out fixing bad ad scripts is good for SEO, who knew)
➡️ Zero layout disruption during the switchover

The kicker? They run two display placements. That's it.

The difference wasn't more ads. It was better infrastructure and a partner that actually picks up the phone.

Everyone's obsessed with optimizing the wrong numbers.

In our 2026 State of Ad Revenue webinar, we dug into what actually predicts revenue. The answer surprised a few people: it's not your monetization metrics. It's your inventory metrics.

Specifically, ad density is your single greatest lever. Two numbers do most of the heavy lifting:
- Impressions per page view: how much inventory each page is actually working
- Impressions per session: how that compounds across a full visit

Chasing CPMs feels productive. But if your density is leaving impressions on the floor, you're optimizing the back nine while ignoring the front.

The strongest predictors of revenue are the ones most publishers stop measuring after setup.

Your fill rate dropped. Before you touch your price floors — read this.

Reflexively lowering floors is the most common mistake publishers make when fill rate falls. It treats a symptom instead of diagnosing the actual problem — and it erodes your long-term inventory value in the process.

The right move is to diagnose first. Placement-level data, partner-level health, timeout configuration, geographic factors — each root cause has a different fix.

We wrote a step-by-step breakdown of how to diagnose and fix a fill rate problem without making it worse.

Yield management for entertainment publishers isn't a quarterly checkup. It's a daily discipline.

Traffic spikes around premieres. Demand surges around award shows. Sentiment shifts move floors in real time. Static configurations leave money on every page view.

Here's what active yield management actually looks like for entertainment sites, and why "set it and forget it" is the most expensive thing you can do.

More ads doesn't have to mean worse experience. 👆 We know that sounds like something an ad tech company would say, but stick with us.

The relationship between ad density and user experience is a curve, not a straight line. Most publishers are operating well below the point where adding density starts hurting engagement.

Which means there's real room to increase impressions per pageview — and revenue per session — without degrading the experience your audience came for.

We put together the framework for doing it right. Read it here: https://bit.ly/4thXuWr

Most ad revenue calculators online are doing math wrong. Single CPM input, one traffic number, multiply, done.

That's not a forecast. That's a fortune cookie.

Real lifestyle revenue projection accounts for session RPM, seasonality, ad density, viewability, and demand mix. We walked through how to use a calculator that doesn't lie to you, and what to do with the output.

Flying blind on your own CPMs is more common than the ad tech industry likes to admit.

Flagdoku has a genuinely global audience. Geography puzzle fans from everywhere. Great for the game. Confusing for the revenue dashboard when strong traffic wasn't producing the CPMs you'd expect.

The culprit? International traffic. The fix? Actually being able to see it.

Playwire's country-level reporting gave Flagdoku's founder a breakdown they'd never had before. Suddenly the gap between traffic volume and CPM performance made complete sense. US visits and visits from lower-CPM markets aren't the same thing. Obvious in theory. Invisible without the right data.

This is what real analytics visibility looks like: not just "how much," but "from where, and why."

Because you can't optimize what you can't see.

Same traffic, different revenue. Vertical matters more than most publishers realize.

A gaming publisher and an education publisher can have identical monthly visitors and end up with completely different revenue outcomes — because the right monetization strategy isn't universal.

Session depth, user behavior, CPM benchmarks, and ideal ad density all look different depending on your vertical.

We wrote a full breakdown of how to optimize revenue in each major publisher vertical: gaming, education, entertainment, sports, news, and tech.

If you're running a generic strategy on a niche property, this one's for you 🔗 https://bit.ly/4ddac2S

Not all streaming content monetizes equally. A scripted drama recap, a celebrity gossip column, and a sports highlight reel pull wildly different CPMs. Even when they live on the same domain.

Content type shapes contextual signals. Contextual signals shape buyer interest. Buyer interest shapes what you actually earn per thousand impressions.

We broke down how streaming and TV content type drives publisher CPMs, and what to do with that information.
