Failed Water Policies Spawn Unprecedented Third Salmon Season Closure. On Tuesday, the Pacific Fishery Management Council voted to close the 2025 commercial season and highly restrict sportfishing to a few days. Fisheries managers were forced to take the drastic steps in response to a forecasted low...

Recent salmon returns highlight the impact of failed water management. Last fall, the Sacramento River saw disastrous fall-run Chinook returns, while the Mokelumne River experienced record highs. The key difference? Sacramento’s juvenile salmon were left to struggle in poor river conditions three years ago, while Mokelumne hatchery salmon were trucked safely to the Bay and ocean—proving ocean conditions weren’t to blame. This is a water policy issue, and unless it's addressed, California will continue to struggle to maintain healthy populations year after year.

On March 29, the federal government approved another $134 million for the Sites Reservoir — bringing total funding to over $780 million for a project that will drain the Sacramento River and devastate salmon runs.

State leaders keep pushing this big-ag water grab, and the kicker is that the $134 million isn’t a grant — it’s a low-interest loan. Taxpayers are on the hook to finance a project that threatens clean water, Tribal rights, and fishing communities up and down California

The Delta Tunnels are promoted by Governor Newsom and his agencies as a way to “...restore and protect the reliability of SWP water deliveries...,” but in fact, the project is about sending more water south to big agriculture—at a cost of $20 billion. Enough is Enough

Newsom’s water policies are killing California’s salmon runs and have created toxic algal blooms in our rivers and Delta. Fishermen and women have been out of work for 2 years and have yet to receive any disaster relief funding. Entire coastal towns and their businesses are now endangered at no fault of their own. The time is now to step up and do something to help and the vast number of communities that rely on them. Enough is Enough
