I know Pantone always chooses a color of the year, and for 2023 they chose Viva Magenta (BE3455). It's a great color, don't get me wrong, but I'm looking for a lot more color and saturation in my life this year, so here are my three colors of the year:

Maximum Yellow DCFF32 - It's a vibrant yellow, which reflects the enthusiasm I have for my work, family, and the potential I see this year.

Awesome Red FF2943 - My intense red, highly saturated, and confident.

French Violet 7714BE - This is the grounding color of my business and a cool but still bright foundation, the color of magic and possibilities.

Color plays a massive role in our everyday psychology, and by focusing on these colors for the year and their psychological associations as well as personal meaning to me, I'll be manifesting these values and characteristics in my personal and professional life.

One of my clients, a great friend, and USMC veteran, tasked me with developing a design for his apparel company DIA. He wanted to recognize greatness and highlight the actions of a veteran performing great things. The story of John Chapman came to mind. If you don't know who he is, look up his story and watch the actual drone footage of his Medal of Honor-winning battle in Afghanistan. It's truly humbling and inspiring.

I came up with a mixed typographic design, Make Three Zero Charlie which was Chapman's call sign during Operation Anaconda. His ferocious fight to the death to protect his brothers in arms ultimately cost him his life, and I wanted my design to reflect his experience as best I could. The mountain he died on, Takur Ghar, was thigh deep in snow so I wanted to show the powder chaos of having to fight in that frigid condition. After AC130 bombardments, grenades, machinegun fire, and even hand-to-hand combat, I wanted to show the shattered state his body was in. I applied these concepts to the typography in the design and overlayed a red silhouette to represent the blood he shed in defense of his country's ideals and his comrades.

2022 was an excellent year for Farsight, and I couldn't be more thankful for the amazing people and fantastic clients I began working with last year. Now that 2023 is here, I wanted to pick a word of the year that embodied my professional and personal goals for 2023.

The best word that embodies my mindset going into 2023 is "Forward." In 2022, I was just getting started and beginning to find my pace as a small business owner. Now that I am fully in it, it's time to move forward. Keep pushing in the positive direction I want to see my company, skills, and personal life grow.
