April 1–7 is National Golden Rule Week. Scripture tells us to love one another and treat each other the way we want to be treated, thus the “Golden Rule.” But Tuesday, April 1, was April Fool’s Day. It’s a day that was set aside centuries ago to play tricks and tell lies to celebrate the day. However, it’s important to note it’s also St. Stupid’s Day, and that name speaks for itself. So, to soften the blow, Wednesday, April 2, was National Reconciliation Day, we’re assuming to help you make amends for all the drama you caused with tricks and lies. And, in case you really messed up and caused someone to be truly hurt or offended, Thursday, April 3 is W**d out Hate Day and today is National Day of No Silence. So, here’s our take on all this: Always treat other people the way you’d like to be treated, even thought they might not seem to appreciate it or reciprocate your efforts. If you don’t trick or tell lies, but are always honest and kind, you have nothing to apologize for. If someone seems to hate you, even if you’ve done nothing to cause those feelings, forgive them and continue to be truthful and kind anyway. Don’t just “wash your hands” of them and let them flounder. You may not have had a part in it, but if a person has suffered mistreatment, they tend to treat others the way they have been treated. It’s a learned behavior. So, show them a new way of acting; retrain them, so to speak. Be kind and treat them with respect. True, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. But, either way, you’ve done what you’re supposed to do, and in time, you will reap heavenly rewards. And let’s face it, this life is just a brief moment in comparison with eternity. So, follow the Golden Rule, not just for one week, but every day. The payback is out of this world.
