In the not too distant past it was relatively easy to find a way to convey your message. The local paper, local radio station, direct mail, yellow pages or a billboard. Then all Hell broke loose. Cable TV, the Internet, Google, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Advocate Marketing, Product Placement, Cause Related Marketing, Blogs, Mobile Advertising and so on and so on. The fundamentals of marketing are still the same. Find the right people in the right place at the right time and communicate your message. No matter what the medium, the goal is the same. Motivate people to buy from you. What once was a 6-8 slice pie has now been shattered into a million crumbs. So, again we ask, what are you to do? "The Chinese symbol for crisis is composed of two elements: one signifies danger and the other opportunity." This quote, around since the 1930's has stood the test of time because it is true. It has been interesting to watch the events in the banking industry this past week through the lens of Marketing. Many banks immediately used email campaigns and other forms of digital media to quickly assure their customers and non-customers (possible future customers?) alike that their institutions were sound. A tip of the cap to their marketing teams who took the opportunity to "Make lemonade out of lemons".
