Follow these steps to make your next pitch perfect. 💯

1. Keep the entire pitch short: only add enough info to hook a journalist, nothing more.
2. Make your hook a quick, snappy sentence that catches attention. 🏃
3. Summarize the story in the body of the email in 1-2 paragraphs.
4. End on a question telling them what we want them to respond to. ❓
5. If a release is live, drop it into the body of the email at the end. 📃

Morgan Mitchell shares: Staying organized is at the foundation of being a good PR pro. Tight deadlines and multiple projects at once means time management and attention to detail are key.

What's the best way to stay organized?

The way that works for you!

Here's some ideas to get started:
✍️Write down EVERYTHING so you don't have to commit it to memory.
⏰Know your deadlines and block time to focus on tasks accordingly.
🌈Don't be afraid of a little color! Color-coding isn't just for aesthetics, it can help organize your thoughts, projects and more!

💥TAILOR YOUR PITCHES💥

How?

✔️Make your email personal. If you know something about the journalist, mention it.

✔️Double-check that you have their name right.

✔️Don’t send mass emails. Only send pitches to one contact. Don’t BCC. It should feel like a 1:1 communication.

✔️Tailor to the medium. Pitching a journalist is different from TV, podcast, analyst, or influencer, so think about how you may need to adjust depending on what a target’s interest is.

It's tip o'clock! 🕛

When proofreading your own writing, it's easy to miss mistakes because you know what you're trying to convey. ✍️

Once you've been staring at a piece of content for too long, you're even more at risk for errors. Your brain will actually read misspelled words correctly! 😶‍🌫️

Our tip? Review written content by reading it backwards, one word at a time, and then review each sentence individually for clarity and concision. ✅

is all about building relationships...but it takes time. 🕰️

Here's how you can help identify the right media contacts and potentially build relationships:

🔹Use keywords to search for contacts.

🔹Read their articles, not only right before you pitch them.

🔹Notice how many articles they write per week. This helps you understand their bandwidth.

🔹Pay attention to the industry experts and analysts the contact frequently quotes.

✔️Brevity, clarity.

Leaders get to the point. Succinct responses are easier to understand.

✔️Try to eliminate filler words.

Um, ah, like, you know, etc. Pause instead.

✔️Project energy!

Enthusiasm covers up mistakes.

3 Ways to Be a Good Source to Journalists:

💬 Broker the story: Find the bridge between what our clients want to say and what journalists want to write. If the journalists aren't interested, figure out what they are interested in.

⏰ Have empathy for their time: There are 7 PR pros for every one reporter. Show how you can help them get a story published the way they want.

🧠 Know the space: Understand what is happening in the industry and how your client's elevator pitch relates.
