Well I flooded the chainsaw so here's a visual update of this wonderful spot we moved the house to back in June.

It feels so good to have cool weather, rain, community, and rest.

Last weekend I went on a solo fastpacking mission deep into the Beartooths. I camped at 10,000 feet in the uppermost reaches of the basin, with the vestiges of a glacier looming above. I saw a wolverine from 100 feet away.

Though I'm not the fastest fastpacker, I think this is what I've wanted trail running to be all along. Moving efficiently but not rushing, journaling, snacking and staying the night - rather than rushing back out to the truck. Plus off trail travel is much more fun with a light pack!

For me, trail running is all about exploring the place that you're in. It's about curiosity, connection and remembering that we're all just animals too. We feel. We hurt. We feel joy. We feel love. We are participants, not observers, in shaping the world we want to live in.

There's another facet to trail running too, the exploration of the self. How do we respond when things get hard? Choosing hard things gives us an opportunity to choose how we move through challenges, and can teach us that we are capable. We have power.

Or maybe that's the altitude talking. Here's sending her first major day off trail like a champ. Some good ol montucky trail running! 🏃‍♀️⛰🐐

In the spring of 2019, Anthony and I embarked on a 100 mile ski traverse along the border of Yellowstone. Due to illness, we had to exit on the second day. Plus it rained some. Plus I was physically unprepared.

It was definitely a bummer. We had been planning, getting stoked, and had brand deals in the pipeline for months. But it was a huge relief to get off that wet snow and back to the road. Even in the short 36ish hours out there, I learned a ton.

Now in the height of summer, after months of the most consistent training I've ever done (since high school cross country) I'm dreaming of winter and spring in the mountains. Dont get me wrong, there's plenty of good times to be had right now. But also, WINTER.

Gary used to pick up Kacy and her friends from school in this old truck. Two kids would sit up front with no middle seat and one lucky winner would lay on their back in the bed of the truck as they rattled back to the neighborhood. @ Belgrade, Montana

I'm getting hungry again.

Go have an adventure and bring the camera along. Document. That's why I bought a camera in the first place years ago.

The last two years of building a tiny house took a ton of my energy, energy that used to go into adventuring and dreaming up long traverses by ski and foot. Now with the house finished (we're looking for a spot, reach out with leads!) I've started getting out consistently again, and it feels like I'm returning to a part of myself that I feared that I had lost.

I am please to report that this was not lost, it was busy building our home, our basecamp for our shared adventure through life. A place of our own that we can return to. A home of quiet reflection, love, good cooking, journals, maps, books, and YouTube. A place of healing, rest and recharge.

I've been holding back with some key life ambitions of mine, especially around storytelling and the outdoors, or maybe avoiding taking on too much at one time (something I tend to do, according to Kacy). I have personal and professional dreams that I've been shying away from, afraid that it wouldn't be "viable."

A lesson I keep learning is that if I'm not going after my passions and making an impact, taking action that aligns with my values, well that's not viable either. So f**k it. Here we go, at my own pace, an uncharted path. I'm ready as I'll ever be.
