Newsflash!! Facebook is REMOVING the option to have PUBLIC FOLLOWERS on your personal profile on November 14th. 😮

[***UPDATE*** Directly from Meta: "November 14 is only a deadline for a small group of profiles. This will be a gradual transition with rolling dates. If you did not receive a notice, you’re not in this wave. However, you can always still transition to ProMode, no need to wait for the notification!"]

If you already have public followers, Facebook will automatically enable PROFESSIONAL MODE on your personal profile. (Allowing anyone to follow you would've been a setting you enabled at some point in the past).

Professional Mode combines ALL your friends and followers into one audience.

PLUS, you get benefits such as post and audience insights, the ability to boost posts, eligibility to monetize your content, if that’s important to you and more.

Otherwise, you can choose to have FRIENDS only and no public followers.

So, if you have *never& turned on the ability for anyone to follow you, and never turned on 'Professional Mode,' then your Profile will remain in 'Classic Mode.' And you'll have just friends, which is what a large portion of Facebook users choose.

Apparently this conversion to Professional Mode for anyone with public followers is to ā€˜simplify settings.’ Hm.

It seems that Facebook Business Pages and Facebook Personal Profiles with Professional Mode enabled are becoming more and more alike.

Facebook initially began testing Professional Mode in December 2021, and then rolled out the feature globally in October 2022.

The premise of Pro Mode is to provide a way for creators, entrepreneurs, and independent business owners to have the same/similar benefits as a Page. So then you don’t necessarily need to have both a personal profile and a public/business Page.

However, going ā€˜all in’ on just your personal profile could work for only specific types folks, e.g. independent professionals, solo entrepreneurs, creators, etc.

I still recommend keeping a public business Page for the vast majority of small business owners for the primary reason of having a separate business presence. And to be able to access the full Meta Ads Manager.

Of course, it goes without saying that all Brands should stick with a public/business Page.

I love looking back on these moments from my career. This is from when the Fubu Foundation worked with the city to restore some of the NY basketball courts.

Here’s some for you… I talk a lot about giving back. The new generation is really intuitive and they have an eye for when a brand is being fake. Don’t just do a charity for the sake of looking good. Try to see it as an opportunity to actually accomplish something that matters to you and rings true with your brand.

For me, it was always about contributing to my community! And it still is!
