On the “angel tree trend” from a former angel tree kid-
Never stop doing good for people. But don’t do it to go viral.
Before you post, even if you’re in a small community, ask yourself these things:
- why does it matter that people know how much I spent, or what I bought?
- if I was a child in need, and my friends found out that all of my Christmas gifts were charity because they saw it online, would I be embarrassed?
- if I was a parent unable to provide Christmas for my child and I saw your post where you bought all of my kids presents without any struggle, would I feel shame?
In a world of digital existence, it’s easy to forget that some moments, some acts of service, are meant to be sacred and quiet.
A lot will argue that the “goal” of posting is to spread angel tree awareness, but I think there are many ways to do that without potentially pairing embarrassment or shame with your good deeds.
You never know who is watching, or what kind of domino effect you’re creating.
