This month’s Pet Tales shares the inspiring journey of Veteran Don Salo and his service dog, Orion.

After years of military service and the physical and emotional challenges that followed, Don found support and partnership through Orion — a highly trained service dog who now helps him navigate daily life, mobility challenges, and PTSD.

Their story is powerful, emotional, and a beautiful reminder of the incredible bond between humans and animals. It also shines a light on organizations like Paws for Purple Hearts and the life-changing impact they make for veterans and families.
Please take a moment to read and share this meaningful story. 💜

Please consider donating to a service dog organization to help Veterans and those with disabilities. The average cost to fully train a service dog is $45,000. There are many organizations from which to choose, but of course, Don's favorite is Paws for Purple Hearts at pawsforpurplehearts.org.

Short girls… this one’s for YOU. 👖✨

Meet Marissa Taylor, a Chesterfield neighbor and founder of Verti Petite — a brand created specifically for women 5’4” and under. Because let’s be honest… petite women are tired of buying pants and immediately heading to the tailor.

Verti’s “Magic Pants” are designed with:
✔️ Petite-only inseams
✔️ 4-way stretch comfort
✔️ Polished, flattering fit
✔️ Functional pockets
✔️ Wrinkle-resistant fabric perfect for work, travel, and everything in between

The best part? You choose BOTH your size and inseam — making it easier than ever to finally find pants that actually fit right off the rack.

From boardrooms to happy hour, these pants were designed for ambitious women balancing careers, families, friendships, travel, and real life. 💫

As Marissa says, Verti isn’t just about pants — it’s about helping petite women feel confident in clothing made for their bodies, not altered as an afterthought.

Many of you already know KEVA for their beautiful Italian leather earrings seen all around our neighborhood — but what you may not know is just how deeply rooted this business is in the Hallsley community.

KEVA truly is “Hallsley Homegrown.” From their models and photographers to their website designer, finance team, lawyer, interns, and even early leadership — this brand was built through the incredible connections and support found right here in our neighborhood.

Co-owners Eva Harris and Ginny Ball launched KEVA in 2019 with a shared dream of building a business that celebrates female artists, makers, and creators — all while balancing motherhood, family life, and entrepreneurship.

What started with signature leather earrings has grown into a thriving lifestyle brand featuring:
✨ Jewelry
✨ Apple Watch bands
✨ Home décor
✨ Art trays & Art Pops
✨ Fragrance collections
✨ Private events & “Make Your Own Earring” parties

After years of running the business from Eva’s Hallsley home, KEVA officially opened the KEVA Studio in Midlothian in 2024 — creating a space for shopping, community events, fundraisers, and creativity.

Today, KEVA products can be found in more than 500 specialty stores across North America, but their heart remains right here in Chesterfield. 💚
