What an incredible moment we got to be a part of this weekend. Gary Batton, Chief of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, beating the drum to kickoff Sunday's Chiefs vs Rams game at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Many have opinions on the use of the team name Chiefs, but owner Clark Hunt and the Kansas City Chiefs organization listen to their Native American advisory board and put actions to their words in support our Tribes. During the month of November they celebrate Native American Heritage and Veteran Appreciation Month with several game activites.
They invite Tribal leaders, Tribal Veterans, and Tribal members to participate in kickoff activities such as the 4 Directiond Blessing Ceremony, throwing the first pass, Veteran Honor Guard for the National Anthem, and the banging of the drum to unify the crowd in chant and rhythm as our Native ancestors did.
The Kansas City Chiefs not only respect and honor the Native American community but build bridges to be inclusive with representing the name CHIEFS!
