Did you know Puerto Ricans have been serving in the U.S. military since 1899?
.. to be honest, before writing this post, I didn't know much about this topic either. I know we usually keep this platform exclusively for design-related topics, but being born and raised in Puerto Rico, I feel a sense of responsibility to shed some light on the hidden truths of Puerto Rican people. Truths about US citizens that you may otherwise never learn.
Swipe through the images to see what I've learned about Puerto Ricans in the military, and feel free to share with anyone you think might be interested.
PLEASE NOTE: I'm not an expert in this topic, I just find it worth discussing, and did my best to relay what I learned. I'm 100% open to learning more if you have any additional info you'd like to share. Additionally, I'd like to underline that this post is not meant to glorify the military, or promote statehood for Puerto Rico. I'm not a fan of any kind of war, or the way the US prioritizes the military above anything else. I still feel it's important to honor those who have risked and lost their lives to war and provide a voice to those who have been silenced and oppressed.
🙏 Last but not least, a special thanks to for helping with some of the research, and to historian for contributing so much to this topic, and in doing so, fighting for Puerto Rican justice and representation.
