Pretty Nice Creations

Pretty Nice Creations Graphic Designer + crafts, recipes, and photography I'm a graphic designer who has been working in my field since 2003. I love to craft.

I love helping people communicate with their intended audience through brochures, business cards, logos and fliers. I have worked at a TV station doing graphics for live news shows, at a newspaper laying out pages and designing ads - as well as managing a team of designers, and in a feed store where I gained lots of marketing experience. I have been making baby blankets for Project Linus since 2000. I love doing custom work - be it crochet, weaving, or any other design idea.

I had fun making a thank you card for - I have PNC stationery and decided to embroider a dandelion on the front. I colored the stem with Karin markers and wrote "someone's a badass" using a fake calligraphy technique I learned a while ago. Then I added a cute banner thing to the inside that says, "it's you!"
I could doodle cards all day. Someone win the lottery and support my habit, mkay?

I purchased some gorgeous batik fabric at this weekend's stash sale. Yesterday I made a zipper bag for my spinning supplies. Specifically it needed a pocket for my wheel oil that kept the container upright. It was a quick sewing project and I put on a zipper, albeit incorrectly.

Also. I realized part of why I am the way I am: When my dad saw my hammock, he asked if I made it myself. It's nice that he believes I *could* make a hammock. But annoying because he made *his* own hammock. 🀣🀣🀣

Y'all it's Friday afternoon and I just finished visiting with Chax Chat Podcast (Rob and Chad). They walked me through so much ADA compliant stuff and I showed them the quirky/annoying things happening in my PDFs.
Designers, if you need help: contact them! I learned how to turn off AI tagging in InDesign (see slides 4 & 5) and I'm sharing with you the ridiculous tags AI came up with AFTER I MADE MY OWN PERFECTLY GOOD TAGS!!!
I feel so much better now, especially knowing that it isn't all on me and that there are better ways to get the same result. Need training? It's worth the investment.

and I went to on Monday and it was glorious! I highly recommend stopping in when you have some time to spend there.
My google review for those interested:
This is not a place to go if you are in a hurry! There are so many gorgeous fabrics to look through and making decisions is not easy.
When we arrived, we were asked to wash our hands in the back bathroom. Once we were done with that, we were given a tour by Elfriede wherein we learned that all of her fabrics are natural: gorgeous silks, so much wool, cotton, canvas and a small amount of plant-based rayon.
The team curates an incredible selection of patterns. There are gorgeous cotton solids, batiks and really unique and fun patterns.
Somehow the store was somewhat busy on a Monday afternoon, so it did take a moment to get fabric cut and to check out. The customer service is wonderful, so the three employees that were there were working reasonably quickly - but at a boutique store pace. It wasn't a place where their main goal is to get you out immediately. (think fine dining vs. fast food)
I purchased fat quarters and a lovely dandelion patterned cotton. Fat quarters are $2/each or $10/6.
We will definitely return and highly recommend following the store on social media to see the unique fabrics they have in store.

I took an advanced pine needle basket weaving class today. I wanted to get another perspective on teaching it and the techniques and materials we use. Definitely worth it. πŸ’•πŸŒ²πŸ§ΊπŸ§Ά
