🎧 Most artists look at monthly listeners like it’s the scoreboard. 🗓️

It isn’t.

Monthly listeners is a surface metric, it tells you how many unique accounts touched your music in a 28-day window, not whether anyone actually stayed, returned, or cared.

A spike in monthly listeners can come from:
• One-off playlist placement traffic
• Algorithm tests that don’t convert
• Passive listeners who never return

It looks good. It often means very little.

What actually matters is what’s underneath:

1. Repeat listeners
Are people coming back after the first stream?
That’s the difference between discovery and connection.

2. Listener conversion
