Emily Burns Perryman admires the entrepreneurial spirit of Buffalo, and how our community has responded to COVID-19 with creativity, flexibility, and collaboration. According to Emily, "That speaks volumes about the kind of place that Buffalo is."

In the face of change, she emphasizes, "Technology is changing... circumstances and variables are changing... you have to be able to operate in a way where you're nimble enough to adjust."

Within our interview, Emily applauds the strength of educators, her team at Daemen College, and Buffalo's resilient network of innovators.

Thank you to the kind and insightful volunteers featured in this collection of interviews. Your thoughts and experiences offer comfort during a challenging time.

Raise your hand if you look forward to your Produce Peddlers delivery all week 🙋🏻‍♀️

Buffalo-born Produce Peddlers was less than one-year-old when the pandemic hit, and our relationship with local food systems changed dramatically.

Co-founder Gina Wieczorek 'didn't think twice before springing into action' to help farmers, suppliers, and consumers in response to COVID-19. "You know what? We've got this marketplace. It can reach a ton of people very quickly, it's completely contactless... let's open up the marketplace to the consumer."

Originally founded to reduce food waste on a wholesale level, Gina and her husband worked tirelessly to pivot their business-to-business marketplace model to support individual consumers, delivering fresh goods to a community of grateful families.

Our conversation is included as part of the series ‘Think as Fast as You Can: Stories of Innovation in Isolation.’ Each video is a reminder of how connected we are during this challenging time, and how much richer our own perspective becomes when we hear each other’s stories.

Thank you to everyone who volunteered time and wisdom to support this collection of interviews.

Tiny seedlings flourish in the 'tropical oasis' of MAP's farmhouse basement, waiting to help feed local families. MAP's team was ready for their second year in a new farmhouse on Buffalo's West Side. COVID-19 brought unprecedented considerations to daily operations, and inspired creative new ways for the team to move forward.

According to Erin Carmina, Development Director, "For MAP, we're part of the food system... now, more than ever, is our Mission so important and seen."

Life is still going. Seeds are still growing. Erin offers warm and reassuring perspective on the strength of Buffalo's nonprofit community, and the dedicated donors that support it.

Dan Yox was about to retire from nearly three decades of teaching science when COVID-19 abruptly pushed his classroom into a virtual environment.

During our interview, Dan generously offered his thoughts on the evolving nature of teaching virtually, the importance of empathy in a time of shared grief, and the challenge of adapting to rapidly changing norms.

When COVID-19 upended life as we know it, Emmy-nominated reporter Les Trent became part of an innovative virtual network- an 'assembly line of technology' delivering national stories- without missing a single day of new content.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Les, Senior Correspondent for Inside Edition and former Buffalo resident, on his unique experiences in the age of COVID-19. He kindly volunteered his time to share his story and offer hopeful perspective on how life has changed, and how it will move forward. His insight is thoughtful, warm, and resonant.

Please share your story :)

Now, perhaps more than ever, we are all very busy navigating our experiences. For many of us, recent day-to-day life is like nothing we have seen within our lifetime. I'm kicking off an effort, called Project Ami, to help collect valuable human stories as we work through our current circumstances.

At the least, I hope it gives you something to do—at the most, I hope it gives you solace to write your thoughts and experiences down. I’m not sure exactly what I’ll do with these stories yet, but I’m hoping to read each and every response and select some to post and share- assuming there's enough interest.

You can add your story through the link below. Questions are included to help you collect your thoughts, and there are no right or wrong answers. Thank you!
