Me listening to you detail the ways your business got burned by paid social media advertising campaigns in the past. We’ve all been there.

Paid social media is not a 🫰 guaranteed tactic to drive revenue. We need a strategic campaign plan. Tracking pixels must be in place if we want to tie audience actions to marketing dollars. We need to test the waters with creative and budget. We have to identify a target audience that makes sense for your brand. And we’ve got to focus on ONE campaign goal. Multiple goals = multiple campaigns = a more complex marketing plan to manage.

I am looking to solve the problem that small businesses (3) have with finding affordable marketing options (1). I provide a service that can be catered to as much or as little involvement as they would like, and I do it at a competitive price (2).

KPIs and campaign goals keep harmony in the marketing process. The metrics you measure will differ from campaign to campaign depending on the goal. A strategic marketing campaign will include multiple tactics to accomplish different goals, which help you accomplish your overarching brand goal.

Example KPI >> type of goal it accomplishes
✨ Impressions and website views >> Awareness
✨ Clicks and social media engagement >> Engagement
✨ Acquiring an email address or other form of contact info >> Lead generation
✨ Sales, new clients, etc. >> Conversion

I miss MySpace 🖤🩷 But we’re never going back there, guys. This social media climate is intense and shows no signs of stopping. Here’s a few ways to create social media boundaries as a business owner or marketing professional.

✨ Remove the apps from your personal device. Or at least log out of your business accounts. You (the individual you) do not need to be actively thinking about and monitoring your channels at all times to be successful at social media. Maintaining your social media presence is an important part of your business plan, and if it’s regularly stressing you out, then distancing yourself from it is necessary.
✨ Create sustainably. If reels overwhelm you and aren’t moving the needle, then don’t use them. Any advice on the type of content you put on social media is subjective sharing based on objective statistics. It doesn’t mean it’s the only way. Create content that brings you joy and makes social media a meaningful part of your business plan. **Obviously this one is a bit trickier if you’re employed by a brand who calls the shots. Identify opportunities for discussions (and some up-management) around what’s not working for the team!
✨ Spend less time consuming on social media. I’ve been known to take social media breaks frequently. Why? Because I can’t control my social media consumption when it’s on the tiny device that I have on me at all times. All that consumption makes it harder for me to find space on the creative side of the screen.

I challenge you to enact these 3 social media boundaries for the next 30 days. Let’s meet up and chat after those 30 days and see how you’re feeling.

I'm throwing my hat in the ring for the subjective debate around email word count. If the goal of your email is to drive some sort of action from your subscribers, then you'll want to set guidelines for yourself. For your sanity and for your productivity, less is better. The clearer you are about getting to the point, the more likely your email is to convert.

Slide 1 and 2 are my recommended sweet spots when working with clients who are using email marketing to further their business goals in a quantitative way. Consider click-through as an opportunity to give more detail. Utilize landing pages or PDFs to provide further context. If you're stuck with a word heavy email that needs reigning in, buy your writer friend a chai latte and ask them to help you edit it down.

And if your newsletter is like mine, if you're knowledge sharing and not expecting an action, slide 3 is a chill place to be.

💖 If you found this post helpful, it’d be great to hear from you.

So, this is me. Captured by the brilliant Alana Adetola Arts Photography, LLC

I can’t say I’m Buffalo born, but I am Buffalo raised, and grateful for the events that have led me to this decision to position myself to help my city of good neighbors. I grew up a typical city kid. A millennial whose parents told her she was never going to get a job sitting on the computer all day. Look at me now 😋

After years of working in retail, I landed a job in e-commerce. I was a social media assistant, which turned into a Marketing Director position sooner than I was ready for. I hustled hard for those years and immersed myself in paid social media advertising, email marketing, website optimization. Conferences, certifications and training programs up the you know what. I learned almost all of my tangible marketing skills during that time.

5 years ago I was welcomed onto The Buffalo News digital subscriptions team, and eventually transitioned to working for their advertising agency as a growth marketing expert. I achieved much success, made valuable connections and learned the power of storytelling in marketing. My confidence blossomed in my time at The Buffalo News. Marketing was where I was meant to be.

And today, I am living, breathing, laboring the sentence I would hear so often and feel proud of. “Jodie does marketing!” I’m so excited to grow and learn as a business owner, and to share creative, collaborative time with the WNY community. I hope to deliver on many things, but most of all, being an inspiring and intentional resource to you.

What you won’t get from me:
👎 Promises on results that aren’t attainable for where you’re at, or in line your unique business needs.
👎 24/7 availability. The work we do together will fit into our lives, not overtake them.
👎 Someone to post to Instagram for you.

What you will get from me:
✨ A collaborator, partner, maybe even a friend who will help you not only grow your marketing efforts, but understand marketing better.
✨ My undivided attention during our time together.
✨ Honesty and transparency in all communication.

I’m ready to work for you, Buffalo. Let’s create something cool!

Hi 👋 I've decided to do something bold. As of January 1, 2024 I am officially DBA Jodie Does Marketing. An inspired, intentional and strategic marketing business. Born out of my desire to challenge myself, and to prove that the mindfulness and awareness I've used to change my life can empower marketing strategy, too.

My goal is to help people who don't have time for marketing. Who don't have a massive budget to spend, but want their ROI to be meaningful. Small business owners, sole proprietors, artists, self-employed individuals who do not have access to resources to help build their client base.

My focus is honing in on your core marketing. Assessing what you're already doing, helping you establish attainable goals, and strategizing how we'll get there. I do this through email marketing, paid social media advertising, e-commerce consulting and website optimization. Organic social media isn’t even what I’m the most skilled at, you guys! I have partners who can assist us with additional tactics we identify along the way.

Well, that’s all for now. Until 2024…

Disclaimer: I am a one-woman operation. I don't have untethered access to targeted audiences. I also don’t know any secret marketing tactics that will scale your business in the next 30 days.

💖 If you could help me spread the word by sharing this post, I would appreciate it so much. Sharing helps me reach others that I haven’t had the opportunity to interact with yet
