For those of you who want to know more — because I was told EVERYBODY knows Billy Kay — here’s a little sneak preview of the article coming in the October issue of Our Town Magazine.

If you’re one of the apparently few people who doesn’t know Billy yet, you’ll definitely want to pick up a copy! The October issues aren’t printed quite yet, so you’ll have to be patient. Once they arrive, you can find them at businesses throughout the Tri-State area.

Stay tuned… and, apparently, prepare to meet someone everybody already knows!

Red Ribbon Week Sticker Contest

The Bullhead City Police and Fire Departments are inviting young artists to get creative and take a stand against drugs. Students in fourth grade and below are encouraged to create an original sticker design promoting a drug free lifestyle. The winning design will be professionally made into a sticker and shared with children throughout our community during Red Ribbon Week.

Contest Details:
The contest is open to 4th grade and below.
Students are to create an original design encouraging others to live drug free.
Entries will be judged based on creativity, artistic ability appropriate to the student’s age and strength of the message.
Students throughout the Tri-State area are eligible to participate.
By submitting an entry, the artist gives the Bullhead City Police and Fire Departments permission to use, reproduce and display the artwork.
Requirements:
One entry per person
Original artwork only
Artwork must be created on a plain piece of paper
No copyrighted characters (Disney, Marvel etc).
Must include a positive & family friendly drug free message
Hand drawn only. No computer generated or AI designs
Do not include artist’s name on the front of artwork
Anti-drug slogans or phrases are allowed. Keep written messages short, clear and easy to read. The finished sticker will be approximately 3 x 4 inches.
Color or black and white artwork is accepted
How to Enter:
Entries can be dropped off at the Bullhead City Police Department lobby, 1255 Marina Boulevard, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Students and classrooms who submit their artwork in person will also receive a small gift at the Police Department lobby.

Submission deadline: October 2nd

The artist’s information should be written on the back of the artwork, including their full name, age, school, grade and contact phone number.

The winning design will be professionally produced as a sticker and distributed during Red Ribbon Week activities throughout the community, including at Halloween events, and featured on social media. The winner will also receive a $50 gift card to Walmart, courtesy of Bullhead City Shop with a Cop.

Students in 5th and 6th grades also have a creative opportunity to enter the Fire Department’s annual Community Risk Reduction design contest, where the winning safety message artwork will be proudly displayed on a Fire Department vehicle. * The Red Ribbon Campaign is the nation’s oldest and largest drug prevention program. The campaign began in 1985 after the murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena by drug traffickers in Mexico. Red ribbons became a symbol of intolerance toward drug use and continue to represent the commitment to living a drug free life.

Mohave Electric Cooperative is bringing back its popular Operation Cool Shade program, giving members the chance to beautify their homes and lower cooling costs by purchasing up to eight shade trees at just nine dollars each. With varieties like Texas Live Oak, Desert Willow Sweet Bubba Seedless, and Chaste Tree available from late August through early October, the program helps reduce exterior temperatures, improve energy efficiency, and enhance outdoor spaces. Tree pick‑up events will be held in Bullhead City on November 21 at the Anderson Auto Group Fieldhouse and in Kingman on November 23 at the MEC Operations Facility, with planting guidelines provided to ensure healthy growth and safety around structures and utilities. It’s a great opportunity for the community to grow greener, save money, and enjoy the long‑term benefits of thoughtful landscaping.

Western Arizona Regional Medical Center has updated its imaging service schedule to make access faster and more convenient for Tri-State residents. At the main hospital campus, appointments are required for all imaging services except X‑rays, which are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT, ultrasound, and MRI appointments can now be made on Saturdays. The Hancock Imaging Center, located at 1245 E. Hancock Road in Bullhead City, offers general radiology, 3D mammography, CT scans, ultrasounds, and DEXA bone‑density testing. X‑rays at this location also do not require an appointment, and the center is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. For all other imaging needs, please call (928) 704‑8889 to schedule. You'll have timely access to modern diagnostic technology and coordinated care across WARMC’s imaging facilities.
