A campaign can have great mail, a strong website, active social media, and solid digital ads… and still feel disconnected.

The strongest campaigns don’t treat print and digital as separate efforts. They use the same message, branding, and strategy across every touchpoint, so voters see a campaign that feels consistent and recognizable wherever they encounter it.

We took a closer look at why a cohesive print and digital strategy matters, and how the pieces can work together instead of competing for attention.

A political logo has to do more than look good. It has to carry a candidate’s identity across yard signs, direct mail, social media, door hangers, and everything else the campaign puts into the world.

For Doug Conaway’s Delaware State Representative campaign, the challenge was balancing a strong personal story with an important part of the brief: “Faith • Family • Freedom” needed to be built into the logo itself. We took a look back at the design process, the references that helped shape the direction, and how the finished identity became the foundation for the rest of the campaign.

Every election cycle, someone declares yard signs a waste of money. But that argument usually starts with the wrong assumption: that a yard sign is supposed to convince someone how to vote. It isn't.

Yard signs do something much simpler, and research suggests they can have a measurable effect.

We took a closer look at why this traditional campaign tactic still has a place in a modern campaign strategy.

🚨 Don’t forget your disclaimers! Political advertising typically requires a “Paid for by” or similar disclaimer identifying who is responsible for the communication.

That can apply to materials such as:
⭐ Yard signs
⭐ Direct mail
⭐ Billboards
⭐ Print advertising
⭐ Broadcast advertising
⭐ Digital and social media advertising

The exact requirements depend on the type of campaign and where you’re running. Federal, state and local elections can have different disclaimer rules, including specific requirements for wording, size, placement and authorization statements.

There can also be exceptions for items where including a disclaimer is impractical or where there simply isn’t enough usable space, but those exceptions also vary by jurisdiction.

Before sending anything to print or publication, check the requirements of the election authority that governs your race.

Campaign season moves fast, and it’s easy for small marketing mistakes to turn into bigger problems.

A few of the most common ones?

❌ No clear fundraising strategy
❌ Trying to be everywhere at once
❌ Inconsistent or confusing messaging
❌ Ignoring digital engagement
❌ Failing to monitor what’s working and adjust along the way

The strongest campaigns usually aren’t the ones doing the most things. They’re the ones doing the right things clearly, consistently, and strategically.

From direct mail and yard signs to websites, social graphics, palm cards, and fundraising materials, every piece should feel like part of the same campaign.

When your message, design, and outreach are all working together, your campaign looks more organized, more professional, and easier for people to understand.
