I got 1.4 million views on an Instagram reel and...

it was the worst thing for my business.

And yeah, for a second it felt AMAZING. The adrenaline rush. The notifications going crazy. "I finally did it! I went viral!"

171K likes. 64K shares. 3K saves. 475 comments.

But here's the problem: that video had NOTHING to do with my business.

Sure, it got engagement. People were talking. Sharing. Saving.

But those are vanity metrics.

The people who engaged? NOT my target audience. They'll never book me. They're not even local to me.

And now when it comes to running Facebook ads, I can't retarget or create a lookalike audience based on Instagram engagement. Why? Because this viral video attracted the WRONG people.

Here's the lesson:

Your posts are probably getting 50 views. Maybe 5 likes. Very low engagement.

But if you're a LOCAL business, what really matters is this:

Are the people interacting with your posts your IDEAL clients? Are they even LOCAL to you?

Because I'd rather have 10 ideal clients liking and commenting on my posts than 1.4 million random people who'll never book me.

Vanity metrics don't pay your bills. The RIGHT engagement does.
