A hard lesson for any designer working in web to learn is that you can't always design for aesthetics. If you're hiring a designer to "design" your site but not build it and they don't have a grasp on basic function, be aware that your development cost may sky rocket or you may be told they can't develop it how it's been designed. Also, when reviewing your dreams, make sure it makes sense to you. If it's not intuitive for you and you know the product/site your users will be even more lost.

Did you know we do commissioned art work?

Thanks to a friend I got to do something fun, and a little out of my comfort zone. The request was a rabbit riding a Kakapo in the design style of Medieval manuscripts or Monty Python-esque art... An inside joke, so don't fret if it makes absolutely no sense.

The initial sketch was similar to this, but much more cartoonish and much more my traditional illustration style. I really had to work to scale back the design and make it look like gouache or water color on parchment and like it was drawn with a quill pen, even though it was 100% created in Illustrator. I know it looks simplistic and almost childlike, but that was sort of the goal (look up that type of art and you'll see).
