Canton Community Foundation and Local Impact Alliance are starting a new Lunch and Learn series here in Canton. The first speaker will be on March 23rd. He will talking about the impacts of the 2020 census (and possible undercount) on SE Michigan.

What are Michigan's biggest population changes in the past decade?
Wayne and Oakland are still the state's most populous counties.
Michigan has the second slowest rate of population growth in the country. Its population increased by 2% since 2010, now over 10 million people.
Reynolds Farley is a Research Scientist at the Population Studies Center and the Otis Dudley Duncan Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan. His research focuses upon current population trends in Michigan and the United States with an emphasis upon racial differences. He participated in the 1980, 1990 and 2000 census research series sponsored by the Russell Sage Foundation and directed the University of Michigan’s Detroit Area Study three times. He has written extensively about racial and economic trends in the Detroit area and maintains a website, www.Detroit1701.org describing the history and future of that dynamic metropolis. He teaches short courses at the Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy concerning history and future of Detroit and frequently leads tours of that city. He earned his doctoral degree at the University of Chicago and taught at Duke University before coming to the University of Michigan in 1967. He is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and served as president of the Population Association of America in 1988.
He is currently serving on a University of Michigan group advising the city of Detroit about the apparent census undercount of their population in Census 2020.
Attendees will bring their own lunch and have ample time to ask questions.
