October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and I'm going to share something I don't talk about often: I'm a two-time breast cancer survivor.

I don't say that for sympathy. I say it because I know someone reading this has been putting off her mammogram.

We do that, don't we? We take care of everybody else first. We move our own appointments. We'll get to it after the next deadline, the next semester, the next crisis.

Don't. Early detection saved my life — twice.

So here's your nudge from someone who's sat in that waiting room: make the appointment. Keep the appointment. You can't lead, build, or pour into anybody if you're not here.

To my fellow survivors — I see you. To the women still in the fight — I'm cheering you on. And to everyone else — go get checked. 💗

Remember the girl you were before the world told you to play safe?

The one who didn’t second-guess her answers. The one who didn’t wait for a manager's permission to speak or agonize over whether her ideas were "good enough" before sharing them.

She was bold; she was certain, and she spoke out loud.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗹 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗞𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗙𝗹𝘆
Before I learned to shrink, I was the girl who knew she could fly.
I was five years old, standing at the top of a tall bookcase, absolutely certain of one thing: I could fly. Not in a someday-I'll-soar kind of way. I mean fly. Just like Superman, my idol at the time.
I gathered an audience; my siblings and my cousins. I needed them to see what I already knew was possible. I climbed to the top. My heart was racing, not with fear, with excitement. No hesitation. No doubt. No voice warning me to play it safe.
Just: "Watch me."
And I jumped.
For a split second… freedom. Possibility. Weightlessness.
Then I hit the piano bench. Then a metal wastebasket.
The result? An emergency room visit and twelve stitches across my eyelid. I had a story my family never let me forget.
Most people would call that a failure. I never did. Because what I remember most isn't the fall. It was courage, boldness, and certainty.
That little girl didn't shrink. She didn't overthink or wait to be chosen.
She just believed: fully, fearlessly, and out loud.

Before you ask me to follow you, tell me what happens when I do.

“Follow me!”

Okay.

But…why?

Before you ask someone to follow you, stand in front of the mirror and answer two questions:

Who do you think you are?

And...

What happens when someone follows you?

Do they discover your expertise?
See something from a new perspective?
Feel encouraged?
Find a solution?
Recognize themselves in your story?

Or do they simply find another request for a follower?

People aren’t looking for more accounts to follow.

They’re looking for people worth following.

Because a follow isn’t a favor.
It’s an invitation.

An invitation into your perspective, your purpose, and the experience you create for the people who enter your world.
So, before you ask for the follow…

Look in the mirror.

Who do you think you are?

And what happens when I follow you?

I really want to hear your answer.
