Election day. Good luck to the candidates. Additional reports will be filed. I will update at that point.

Expenditures:

This is a big one for me. If you want to be champion for Cape Girardeau businesses then you should absolutely do everything you can to support local businesses and families when it comes to spending. In other words, put your money where your mouth is.

Stacy Kinder's campaign spent a walloping $26,511.55 outside Cape Girardeau (most of which was out of the state) for 80.58% of her total expenditures. Only $6,329 was spent with Cape Girardeau businesses (19.24%). Bob Fox's campaign spent $16,100.15 with Cape Girardeau businesses (76.28%) and $4,978.65 spent outside Cape Girardeau (23.59%) Michelle Latham's campaign spent $4,930 with Cape Girardeau businesses (64.11%) and $2,759.70 outside Cape Girardeau (35.89%).

This was really mind blowing to me that a candidate really talked up support for Cape Girardeau businesses then turned to businesses outside of Cape Girardeau when it came to campaign spending. Really out of touch.

Receipts:

Stacy Kinder did a great job fundraising with a total of $42,915 compared to Bob Fox's total of $24,350. But let's break that down. Most of Kinder's donations came from outside Cape Girardeau ($27,275 or 63.56%). So that means that she raised more money from people outside Cape Girardeau than Fox's total amount raised. Compare this to Fox's figure of $500 from sources outside Cape Girardeau. This means only 2.05% came from outside Cape Girardeau. Because Michelle Latham self-financed her campaign, 100% of her donations came from Cape Girardeau residents.

Now let's also look at family contributions. (*note I may have missed some family contributions as I may not have recognized names as being related to the candidates). Bob Fox had $2500 donated by himself or family for 10.27% of his total. Stacy Kinder had $25,600 donated by herself of family for 59.65% of her total. Again because Michelle Latham self-financed her campaign, 100% of her donations came from herself.

Let me be clear that there is nothing wrong or accepting donations from family but this seems extreme. One Kinder household in Texas donated $13,000 for over 30% of her total.

Having a candidate rely so heavily on out of town (state) donations and family donations gives the feeling of someone just trying to buy an election. Again, there is nothing illegal about this.

After the hours spent downloading and tabulating all the data, I have some thoughts. You can skip all the individual reports and go to the totals for receipts and expenditures. I will make separate posts for my thoughts on Receipts and Expenditures.
