Last night Kevin and I saw this POWERFUL movie about fatherhood, and we highly encourage our friends and family to go see it!!! Kevin and I went and saw "Overcomer" last weekend in the theater here in Cartersville, GA. The Kendrick Brothers did it again, and this movie is EXCELLENT!!! They are such gifted storytellers and filmmakers! This movie has a great story line with interesting twists and turns - you will laugh, and cry, and cheer!! All ages will enjoy and be touched by this movie, but it is especially impactful for today’s teenagers! Make sure you bring some tissues! Kevin and I both cried off and on throughout the whole movie. 😥 And the gospel is powerfully and clearly presented, too! ✝️ We know that God will greatly use this film to advance His Kingdom, and it will also help many to realize the power of forgiveness and to understand who we are in Christ. Last week we had the awesome opportunity to speak to the cinema students at our Alma mater, Bob Jones University. It was great to meet up again with some of Kevin's former teachers. He was especially excited to see one of his favorite teachers, retired cinematographer, Wade Ramsey. Kevin took 4 years of camera classes from Mr. Ramsey, and the things he learned in those invaluable classes have stuck with Kevin all these years. We started out the class by showing Kevin's senior project that he filmed 35 years ago! It is a short documentary about sorghum syrup and the mountain folks who made it. We were newlyweds when Kevin was creating his senior project, so I tagged along on all the shoots and became his interviewer. That first project was what sparked a passion in both of us for the need to capture people's stories! We shared with the students that even though God didn't open up the doors for Kevin to make a career in film making, we have had the privilege of working together as a couple over the last 15 years to produce hundreds of projects for our church, our family, and other ministries and non profit organizations. We also showed the students several other short films we have produced to let them see ways that they can use their gifts and cinema skills to preserve oral histories, enhance the ministries and missions of their local churches, and help promote great organizations in their communities. And we in turn were encouraged to see this younger generation's enormous potential! The most meaningful projects that we do at Legacy FilmStories are capturing people's faith stories. Over the past 13 years, we have had the privilege of filming over 260 of these short testimony videos that are shown before the person's baptism at our church, Cartersville First Baptist. Each of these stories are special and unique and become treasured keepsakes of the most important decision in these folks' lives. A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to film 13 year old Olivia Glenn sharing her faith journey. Her story is especially dear to our hearts because Becky had the privilege of being with Olivia when she accepted Christ as her Savior several years ago at VBS, and also because Olivia is a two time cancer survivor!! Please take a few moments to watch this precious girl's interview and baptism. (You may need to grab a tissue!)
