Southwest Livestock Show To teach young people about cooperation; improved agriculture; sportsmanship; animal husbandry; ethics; hard work and traditions.

The Southwest Livestock Show was started in 1940 and continues to make a positive impact on our youth and our community today, some 75 years later. Many hundreds of people work together to provide a place where young people can fit, show and sale their livestock project. Without even realizing it, FFA and 4-H members who show livestock are developing character traits that will carry them throughout life – regardless of their career choice. Discipline, patience, goal-setting, making friends, teamwork, project planning and management, math and, of course, a good work ethic are all traits employers seek. Livestock exhibitors also pick up practical agriculture knowledge and experience, such as breed identification, quality and yield grades, breed characteristics, animal health care, animal behavior, nutrition, marketing, animal husbandry, record-keeping and budget management. Please consider helping promote these traits by supporting our young showmen during sale day, by sponsoring their project, helping set up and take down the barn or serve as a member of the teams which are organized by our committees.

Emergency change of the lamb and goat judge! Wade Franklin will be our goat and lamb judge for 2026. We look forward to having Wade back in town and look forward to having Nathan Haws next year as our lamb and goat judge!

We will be posting assigned pens this evening for hogs and steers! Lambs and Goats will be posted tomorrow morning at 6AM.
The handbook does say that penning doesn’t start until 10AM, but staff will be there at the barn at 6AM. So all species can come in the morning and start penning! We are not allowing clipping areas to be claimed until tomorrow as well!

Fitting competition rules:
-All 4 species will be involved with the fitting competition.
-Teams will consist of 3 members being 1:Junior age 1: Intermediate age 1: Senior age. This is meant to be educational so we want all age groups in a team.
-Participant must pick only 1 specie to compete on!
-Hogs and steer competitions will happen in their respective locations in the barn, but will meet in the arena for instructions before the start of the competition.
-Goat and lamb competition will happen in the show ring.
-After the competition the teams will present their animals in the show ring for final judging!
-Goats & Lambs can only be ruff sheared, beef no farther than blocked out and hogs not clipped. -The animal must be washed before the competition.
-They can have 1 phone a friend per team.
-They can bring an animal specifically for the competition but then has to leave the barn when the competition is over. There will be lambs and goats provided if you choose not to use your own.
The fitting competition will be Wednesday September 9th starting at 6pm meeting in the show ring!
Ask any questions you may have about the competition and we will answer.

Pre-registration with your teams is recommended so we know how many goats and lambs to bring for the competition. Please write down the name and age division of each kid and if you are bring your own animal or need an animal. Email this to [email protected]
