Everybody in North Texas spends the summer waiting for this.

The heat finally breaks. The evenings cool off. And for about three months the backyard is the best room in the house.

That is the stretch people say they wish they had been ready for. They call us in April, after they have already missed it, and then they wait through another July.

Six things people forget when they plan an outdoor kitchen.

One. The hood is not optional anymore. Vent hoods are becoming a requirement on new builds. Plan for it up front and it gets framed into the design instead of looking bolted on later.

Two. Run gas and electric first. Every line is easier and cheaper before the concrete goes down and the stone goes up.

Three. Do not cheap out on the electrical. Lighting, fans, and heaters decide whether you use the patio three months a year or most of the year. This is where people try to save and it is what they add later anyway.

Four. A sink is overrated. A fridge is not. Most people still walk inside for water. The refrigerator is what actually keeps everybody outside.

Five. Nobody asks for the trash slide-out. Then it becomes the thing they use every single time they cook.

Six. Add the turf. Skipping it is the regret we hear most.

This backyard already had the pool. It did not have anywhere to be.

Bare deck, winter grass, and a handful of chairs scattered around the edge with no shade anywhere. In August nobody was out there unless they were in the water.

So we built the other half of the backyard. A gabled cedar cabana with stone columns, a wood-burning fireplace, a mounted TV, and a full outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill and storage.

Now the pool is one thing you can do out there instead of the only thing.

"The quality of workmanship and attention to detail really stood out to us."

A smoker, a grill, and a griddle built into stone, with counter space on both sides and a run long enough to actually cook for a crowd.

Attention to detail in an outdoor kitchen is mostly invisible. It is where the gas and electric were run, how the appliance openings were framed, and whether the counter overhang lands where your hands go. You notice it every time you cook, and never once consciously.

Six weeks ago this Celina backyard was a builder slab and a patch of grass.

Six weeks includes the permits. It includes the HOA approval. It includes every day the crew was on site.

We built a detached covered patio with a stained wood slat wall and a mounted TV, added an outdoor kitchen with a built-in gas grill under the attached cover, poured stamped concrete across the patio, and put turf through the rest of the yard.

The shingles were matched to the house and the concrete was poured tight to the existing slab, so none of it looks bolted on after the fact.

The small photo in the corner is the same yard on day one.

Nobody's actual worry about a backyard remodel is whether the stone will look good. It is whether they will be able to reach anybody once the deposit clears.

Weeks of crews in your yard. Permits. HOA. Weather. The thing that decides whether that period is fine or miserable is whether somebody tells you what is happening before you have to ask.

Nine years ago, we transformed this North Texas backyard into a complete outdoor living space. Today, it still looks like we finished it yesterday.

This full backyard build included a custom pool surround, a covered patio, and a complete outdoor kitchen with a grill, pizza oven, sink, and plenty of room to cook and host. We added a comfortable sitting area anchored by an outdoor fireplace, then installed a secret garden in the back to tie the whole European style together.

That is what we do. That is the quality we put into every project.
And here is the part we are most proud of. Our customers love the work so much that they welcomed us back into their backyard nine years later to film it. When a space still looks this good almost a decade in, you know it was built to last.

This backyard had a nice house attached to it and almost nothing to do outside.

Two grills parked on the edge of a small slab. No shade. No reason to walk out the back door between June and September.

We built a custom covered patio that ties into the existing tile roofline, added stacked stone columns, motorized screens for shade and privacy, and extended the patio so there is actually room to sit and host.

The roof pitch and materials were matched to the home on purpose. A patio cover should look like it was always part of the house, not like something bolted on afterward.

Same house. Same backyard. Completely different way to live in it.

Swipe to see the before and after of this Frisco backyard.

Hawk Nest Haven started the way most newer homes do. A small slab, plain grass, and a backyard nobody had a reason to spend time in.
Now it is a full outdoor living space. A gabled patio cover with solid wood beams and a wood plank ceiling that ties right into the home, a stamped concrete patio, and a shaded, comfortable spot built for family dinners, weekend cookouts, and quiet evenings outside.

Bobby also said the quality and workmanship will be used for many years to come. That is the part we build for.

A fire pit and a place to sit around it is one of the smaller things we do, and it is one of the ones people end up using the most. It is the reason anybody is still outside in November.
